South Beach to FLL by public transportation

Could some one tell me how to get to Fort Lauderdale airport from south beach (staying near Lincoln Mall). I see that the Tri-Rail goes from Miami but how do you get to there from south beach? From their site it looks like the ride from "Metrorail Transfer Station" is half hour, from MIA airport station about 40 minutes. I realize then you have to take a shuttle from the Ft Lauderdale/Dania Beach station to the airport.

So I guess my question is just how to get from south beach to either the Metrorail Transfer or MIA stations to get the Tri-Rail. I'll be doing this on a Friday afternoon in February.

Thanks

Hi Isabel,

When I visited SoBe a few years ago, a bus was the only option to get from South Beach to Downtown Miami/the Metrorail, if you want to use public transit. This still seems to be the case: the S, M and C buses from this site go from SoBe to either Government Center or Civic Center Metrorail stops, from which you can travel on Metrorail to TriRail. These buses ran fairly frequently in my recollection. Here's a link: Metrobus Routes & Schedules - Miami-Dade County

Best wishes, Daniel

Why don't you just take Super Shuttle? Is there a reason you are only considering a commuter train? It would be just as fast and likely not much (if any) more expensive to take a shared-ride.

You could also take a TAXI or even Uber to the nearest Miami Metro stop or even to Tri-Rail if you wanted to. Frankly, you might simply use something like SuperShuttle or similar all the way to FLL. Please do not overthink this one, Doug.

Daniel - thanks for the link

Doug and Duckey - I'm open to all options but when you google cost of taxi from Miami Beach to FLL it looks like it's $75-80 which is a lot to spend to save an hour when I'm not in a big crunch for time. Super shuttle is $45 which is still a lot compared to what looks to be under $10 for public transportation. I travel by public transportation all the time in Europe (and NYC) but for this trip I'm having a lot of trouble finding good specific info.

Thanks for any other (specific) info anyone can give.

"I travel by public transportation all the time in Europe (and NYC) but for this trip I'm having a lot of trouble finding good specific info."

That's because Florida does not have the public transportation infrastructure that you will find in Europe (or NYC).
