South beach or Bahamas

Help - 3 Moms and 3 daughters (19 yrs. old) want to do a 3 night trip - should we go to South Beach or Bahamas? Been to South Beach so we are very comfortable there or venture to Bahamas where we have never been. Of course want a good deal - any suggestions welcome!!

South Beach. I agree with flep - much more to do and better food. The Bass Museum of Art had a really good exhibit the last time we were there. If you get tired of South Beach, there are many other places to go in the area.

But the Bahamas have that amazing blue blue water!

I like Freeport, Bahamas better than Nassau. It was more authentic (not just American tourists). Plus they are all driving on the "wrong side" of the rode. They have accents. Definitely the Bahamas. The 19 year olds would love it. (No drinking age enforced there, so watch out if that worries you). I love South Beach too, but since you've already been there it is time to do something else.

Any suggestions on hotels in Freeport to stay in for 4 nights?

Went to Grand Bahama Island a few years ago and thought the area around the Port Lucaya Marketplace was ideal; the marketplace is large, not far from the beach, and plenty filled with shopping and restaurants. The Port Lucaya Resort & Yacht Club was one of the more unpretentious and reasonably priced options (liked it very much), and there are several more luxurious possibilities close by. Didn't even need a car between the bus tours to more remote areas and the jitney buses into Freeport.
