south beach hotels

My husband and I are looking to celebrate our 10 year anniversary on South Beach. The number of hotels are overwhelming. Any suggestions. We would love and ocean view and balcony. Close to action but quite enough to enjoy.
thanks!!

The Raleigh is very nice. The pool is said to be the prettiest in Miami Beach - many magazine photo shoots take place there.

Can also vouch for the Sheraton Bal Harbour Beach Resort, if you don't want to be in the thick of things in Miami Beach.

You can try Ritz Carlton, South Beach or Delano. Both are quite nice.

A room with ocean views and a balcony will be very expensive. What is your budget?

For ocean views you must be above tree level which would be at least the fourth or fifth floor.

The Delano is indeed very nice and a good choice for an anniversary. But I think it is on the other (non-beach) side of Collins Ave if memory serves. Nevertheless, it is a small, very upscale, beautiful hotel which might be more "refined" shall we say, then some other South Beach options. Worth looking into for sure.

I also stayed at the Impala which was very nice as well.

The Delano IS on the beach side of Collins. Ocean view rooms are available, although they're really more like pool view, with the beach and ocean in the distance. It's an interesting, quirky place. On the down side, it's expensive and the rooms are not luxurious. You're paying mostly for the location and for the trendiness factor.

I second amaclise's nomination of The Impala. It's a small, quiet, nice hotel. If anything, it's even better located than The Delano, assuming you want to be in the thick of things. When I stayed there, it was about half the cost of The Delano. However, it's a block from the beach.

Lowes Hotel Great Location Nice Hotel

I also like Marriot Eden Roc. You would have to taxi it or walk on the board walk to S. Beach. DeLano would be my first choice if price is not a option.

A balcony oceanview room at the Delano will cost you $600+ per night.

For that kind of money I'd splurge and stay super lux at The Setai. Even the Shore Club makes the Delano look shabby.

lgott, thank you. now I realize I mixed up The Delano and the Impala. My comments above re: The Delano were for the Impala.

OP, where are you? Are we hitting the mark here?

I second the choice for the Setai for super-lux. Although I didn't stay at the Delano, and thought it was very cool to visit for cocktails, there was something about the vibe that would deter me from using it as home base.

We LOVED the National. Very clean rooom, great location, incredible pool and grounds, and right on the beach. They have rates at all levels. We had a mid-priced room which was smallish but newly renovated, and a balcony along the pool.

By the way, you'll have to try the restaurant Vix!

I second VIX!!! Absolutely phenomenal dining experience. Well worth the splurge and expense for something like your 10th-it comes but once...!!
