South Beach Fla. in May

What is South Beach like in late May, as opposed to "spring break"? Is it wild & crazy or does it calm down? <BR>

As I am going in May also, I would love an answer to this question too.

I live in South Beach, and I would be careful about Memorial Day weekend. Last year there were a lot of problems - crowds bent on causing trouble and a menacing, out of control atmosphere. Perhaps it is politically incorrect to say this, but I am just stating the truth. Any other weekend you should be fine.

I will be spending May 9th thru 11th in South Beach. How does it look for those dates? Any suggestions on a cheap (under 100/night) but clean place to stay within walking distance of the hot spots and beach?

I'm sorry, I'm not familiar with the hotel situation (my guests always sleep on my sofa LOL). Hopefully someone else can be of more help. Regarding that particular weekend, I would advise calling the Miami Beach tourism office and asking them straight out if any conventions or special events are planned for that weekend. Due to last year's fiasco (Hip Hop weekend, etc) they are taking a much more proactive role in the planning, so they should be able to tell you. Good luck!
