South Bay/LA recommendations

Here in South Bay for rest of October through mid December. Does anyone have any recommendations for entertainment/fun things to do during the day/night. My friend and I are in our mid-late 20s and we're looking for some cool bars and some things to do during the day. Already did the Hollywood thing--and wasn't that impressed. Perhaps some beach recommendations for surfing and something more cool day trips were there's more to do then just walk around. Thks!

In the South Bay, Hermosa Beach is the place where people in their 20's hang out. Just go down to Pier Avenue and you will see plenty of bars. If you are looking for something with a little older crowd or more upscale go to Manhattan Beach. It can pretty crazy particularly in Hermosa. Here's a website with plenty of info. www.pubclub.com/losangeles/southbay.

Also I am a little confused about the beach thing. If you are staying in the South Bay then you must be in or next to Redondo, Hermosa and Manhattan Beaches. You can definitely surf there although I am not sure about the best surfing area.

As far as day trips, it all depends on what you like to do. The Getty Museum is worth a trip. You can do hiking in the Santa Monica Mountains in the LA area. Lots of trails in different areas. You can go to Catalina for the day or down to Laguna Beach (which would mostly be walking around). I am sure others can give more ideas when we know your interests.

The Comedy and Magic Club in Hermosa is fun! Jay Leno performs there every Sunday night.

Paula gave you the website on the local bars in the SoBay. Have you tried Cafe Boogaloo in Hermosa Beach?

My kids like Oktoberfest at Alpine Village in Torrance. Here is a coupon for free entrance to print off the computer.

You could Google around and find sites for the TV shows taping while you're there. It's fun to go to the Jay Leno show or Jimmy Kimmel, for instance. Tickets are free, but you have to jump through some hoops to get them. You can go on-line and find out what guests are on and when.

Okay, just for starters:

Pick up a free copy of the Easy Reader newspaper. They have a weekly listing of live music and other happenings at all the South Bay bars/clubs. http://easyreader.hermosawave.net/

Take a bike ride on The Strand, all the way to Venice or Santa Monica. www.labikepaths.com/SoBay.html

Go Whale Watching - on Palos Verdes at the Point Vicente Interpretive Center, or from a catamaran out of Long Beach:
www.2seewhales.com

Have a beer - they have 77 on tap --and people watch at Naja's on the Redondo Beach Int'l Boardwalk: www.najasplace.com/

Take the ferry from San Pedro to Catalina for the day. www.catalinaexpress.com

See a show taping at the Raleigh Manhattan Beach Studios. www.tvtickets.com (America's Funniest Videos is taping there all through November.)
