Sotterley Plantation - A Mini TR

My art group visited this plantation and were pretty "wow'ed" by it. On its site, it states that Sotterley is older than Mt. Vernon, Monticello and, indeed, the nation.

Our group hired Smith Bus in Annapolis and it took about 1.5 hours to reach it. It was a nice ride and would be a very convenient day trip from Solomon's Island as well. It is in Hollywood, Maryland. Right next to California, Maryland. My trip partner and I speculated that the area was named by someone who didn't make it to the West Coast so was making up for it!

We were able to reserve box lunches (no refunds, FYI) and they were very good and reasonably priced. Tour and lunch were $22.

The rooms in the mansion were in various states of restoration but it's an amazing place that has withstood the test of time (1703!).

The site will give you more info than I can do justice to. Some of the War of 1812 was literally at the doorstep of Sotterley. American history buffs will really enjoy this place.

I plan to post some photos and will give you the link when it's ready.

Tdude, thanks for the report. It's a nice area to visit. Lamentably, the link requires me to sign-in with a yahoo account, which I don't have.
