Sonoma with a baby

We are visiting friends in SF and would love to see Sonoma, but we will have our 7 month old with us. How receptive are the wineries to families? At 7 months, he will be in a stroller the entire time.

I live in the Bay area and therefore have been to Sonoma/Napa several times. I honestly cannot remember ever seeing children at the wineries. If you have particular places that you would like to taste, you may want to e-mail the wineries and ask directly. Everytime we reserve a winery tour, the staff is very helpful and friendly.

If your baby is quiet all the while, no one will notice.

i think you will need to plan on one of you waiting outside with the baby- something about minors being present with alcohol being served is illegal. i, too, live in the area and in 13 years i can recall exactly one child sighting: a couple squished in their car's front seat while their toddler napped in his car seat.

I don't see this as a problem. At 7 months you should be able to bring one of those baby backpack things that string up over your shoulder so you or your partner could carry the baby on any tour.

As for minors not being allowed - I think that's bars, not tasting rooms. Many "tasting rooms" are located in or near gift shops so there's plenty of grey area.

I think the bottom line would be respecting the other visitors. A crying child would obviously draw looks.

If you should happen to run into problems, I'd suggest visiting smaller wineries as an alternative.
