sonoma valley restaurants

could you recommend your favorite restaurants in sonoma? my husband and i will be staying at the sonoma inn. also, is it doable to go to napa (yountville) for dinner and come back to sonoma at night....someone said be careful about driving at night there....wild vines?

Of course it's doable! Yountville is about 25-30 minutes from Sonoma. You would be on a two-lane highway for half the ride, and freeway for the other half.
We have enjoyed our meals at Girl and the Fig in Sonoma. Also, I love the patio dining at Della Santina. It is quite charming. Both places are near the Plaza.
Others will give you first-hand recommendations of other places. Most of my experience is in the Napa Valley.

How about the General's Daughter in Sonoma? I ate there in November. The food was wonderful. The restaurant is in a beautifully renovated 1870's victorian home.

I also ate at the Girl and the Fig. It was very good but I would recommend the General's Daughter of the Girl and the Fig.

thank you so much for the recommendations. Should I make reservations before I arrive ? We will be there Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights.

Definitely make reservations as soon as possible. Also, I don't recall any freeway between Sonoma and Yountville. We took the Oakville Grade, after hitting Highway 29, you go south for a few miles and you are in Yountville.

Would not advise the Oakville Grade unless you want a very turny-twisty slow climb up and then over down into Oakville-and definetly not post dinner after drinks. I will give you that it is quite scenic.

The easiset way to from Yountville from Sonoma would be Hwy 12/121 (the 2 lane
country road part) that intersects with Hwy 29 just south of Napa town-which is a 4 lane divided freeway at that point and continues north to Yountville where (29)goes to 2 lanes. There are alot of stoplights on the highway as you travel through Napa town.

There's probably no wild vines, just a
lot of California Highway Patrol officers on the lookout for drunk drivers.

Now as for a few other restaurants we enjoy over in Sonoma town:
Meritage
Harvest Moon
Carneros Bistro
Swiss Hotel
Cafe la Haye

You won't be wanting for some great
dining in Sonoma town.
