Sonoma to San Fransisco
 

Hi, Just planning a little get away..can someone tell me how long a drive it is from San Fransisco to Sonoma or Napa? (at a leisurely pace)

DH and I just came back from Sonoma And SF yesterday. Depending on what time of day and weather conditions (avoid rush hour & driving on rain days) it takes about an hour.

WE stayed at Grand Hyatt on UNion Square, went over teh Bay Bridge to oakland & up to Napa (shortest rout) and had most of teh wineries to ourselves. Be sure to understand almost all wineries in NApa charge 8.0 to 12. 00 per tasting.
Sonomoa is usually no charge. I can recomend a booklet we got from teh concierge...2 for one and some free...

I certainly would not go over the Bay Bridge to get to either Napa or Sonoma. Use the Golden Gate bridge - much more scenic going & coming.

Stu, I've got a feeling 1JAR meant to say the GG bridge. People who've lived here all their lives (ahem!) even confuse the names occasionally...

I agree - take the Golden Gate bridge! Stop right after you cross it to take pictures.

1JAR did mean the Bay Bridge because he/she said they went to Oakland.

From SF take the Golden Gate Bridge up 101 to get to Sonoma and Napa. As Stu said it is MUCH more scenic than the other route.

Plan your trip so you avoid commute hours.

Downtown SF to Sonoma is about an hour and SF to northern Napa Valley is about 1.5 hrs.

We live in Healdsburg. Its 1.5 hrs.north of the Golden Gate bridge. Its in Sonoma COUNTY. There is also the town of Sonoma, which is also in Sonoma County. Santa Rosa is the county seat. Its just south of Healdsburg. I would skip Napa, if I were you and visit all the lovely wineries around Healdsburg. If you want to see beautiful redwood trees without crowds, check out Armstrong Woods in Guerneville.
