Sonoma Suggestions?

We are only going to be in Sonoma/Napa for about 24 hours on July 3/4. I have already made arrangements to go on a 1pm tour of the Moon Mountain Winery but I was hoping for another suggestion -- it can be a winery or not. I don't want to feel like we are rushing around to see everything. Maybe we should just walk around the town instead of hitting another winery? Thoughts? Suggestions? Thanks! Also, has anyone eaten at The Girl and The Fig?

Actually Ravenswood is great winery and very close to Sonoma's Town Square. Maybe a 5 minute drive. They have a great staff snd some good wines.

My favorite winery was Ferrari-Carano, just north of Healdsburg. If you make it up that far, you have to go there. The grounds are gorgeous, and the staff was very friendly.

If your in for a scenic drive, take CA 116 along the Russian River. In Guerneville, you can take a bypass through the Armstrong Woods Redwood Forest. Continue on 116 through Monte Rio to the coast and take CA 1 south through Bodega Bay. Bodega Bay is where the Hitchcock movie "The Birds" supposedly took place. Not a very attractive place, but to say you've been there..... (and the school house still stands). If you're headed to San Francisco, you could just continue on CA 1 south. If you're headed north, you can backtrack on CA 1 and visit Fort Ross, an early Russian fishing village and fort from pre-gold rush days. Sonoma has more than just the vineyards.

We had lunch at the Girl and the Fig last month. It was wonderful. I had duck terrine (rivaled the ones I have had in France)with proscuitto, gerkins and a crusty baguette. My husband had a huge burger, which he liked. All the sandwiches and salads looked great as well. I don't think you could go wrong here. Bon Appetit!
