Sonoma County Brunch or Lunch Suggestions

Our son is graduating from Sonoma State later this month. Yea! He graduates at 3:00 pm on a Saturday and would like to go out for bruch or lunch prior to the ceremonies instead of dinner afterwards. We would like to take him to a nice restaurant in the area. Does anyone know of a good restaurant that serves brunch or lunch on a Saturday?

That is a tough one! There are not as many places that offer brunch as years ago..especially on a Saturday. You will need to be there earlier to park and line up and you need to allow driving time, There is a hotel near to SSU(used to be Red Lion), but it is not very special IMO. What direction will you be traveling from?

Thanks for your input, Gail. That hotel is now a Doubletree and you're right, it's not very special. We're driving up from the SF Bay area early in the day, so that's not a problem. It is a tough question--that's why I posted it here!

In case anyone else ever needs to find a special place for brunch/lunch in this area, I've just found out that Mixx in Santa Rosa is open for lunch on Saturday. Photo on website shows owners with Julia Child. Any recommedations for this restaurant? What's good for Julia sounds good to me!

You might try posting your question on www.chowhound.com, as there are a lot of people on that board who are very familiar with that area. Go to the message boards, then to California, then to the San Francisco board as they have lots of questions on the Santa Rosa area as well--people there are very helpful as well--and, as you can imagine, quite food-oriented!

We had dinner at Mixx two years ago. The food was great and the restaurant is very nice inside. Quiet but not stuffy. Good luck!

Mixx is a great choice (didn't know they were open for luch!). We also enjoy nearby Carpi especially for the gnocchi. Make sure to brace yourself for 101 traffic to get back. Congratulations on the graduation!!
