Sonoma
Hi - we will be in Sonoma for 3 days. We want to hit up a bunch of wineries, the CIA and a bunch of other attractions. Can someone recommend what we should visit?

There's good info at http://www.sonoma.com/wineries/
My favorite places in Sonoma County aren't in the town of Sonoma, but closer to Healdsburg. If you can spend one day up in that direction, I'd suggest the Russian River & Dry Creek areas. If your intersted, you can click on my screen name and scroll down to the thread "Just Back from Healdsburg" for some wineries, restaurants, etc. In the town of Sonoma, Sebastiani is a nice winery with very good value wines. Ravenswood is a well-respected Zinfandel maker not far from the main square. |
how long is the drive up to Oakville and Healdsburg?

Two of my favorites, the first for the wine, the second for the chateau/view/etc.:

I think Flatus meant for that post to go on a different thread (at least I hope so!).
Healdsburg & Oakville are in different directions. It's just under an hour to Healdsburg from downtown Sonoma, and the Russian River & Dry Creek areas are a little further on. Oakville is in the Napa Valley to the east of Sonoma. It's about a half hour drive w/ no traffic, but on weekends it could be an hour. I'm not a fan of Hwy 29 (the main road of Napa Valley) on the weekends because it's always crowded. If you do one day in Napa, you can go along the nicer Silverado trail (still traffic on the weekend but not as bad), and then drop down into Oakville, Rutherford, etc. to avoid long stretches of Hwy. 29. Sonoma to Oakville that way would take longer but it would be more enjoyable IMO. |
