We are leaving in one week for a trip to San Francisco. We have one free day to drive to the wine country and it looks like for this limited amount of time that Sonoma would be a good choice. Can anyone recommed the best way to get there from San Francisco. We are not huge wine drinkers but we would love to see a beautiful vineyard....any suggestions on one that is close to the San Francisco side of Sonoma.

personally, if you are not big wine drinkers, I would make the drive up to Muir Woods to walk beneath the magnificent redwood trees. The a little further north along Hwy 1, you can visit a lighthouse and the beach at Point Reyes.

Go over the Golden Gate and head north toward Carneros - it is the wine region just south of Sonoma and Napa - lovely wines, pretty scenery and a little shorter drive. Stop at Gloria Ferrar for a tour and a tast of their sparkling wine - or Domaine Carneros just to sit on their patio with a glass of their pinot noir or sparkling wines.
