Anyone? The Lodge at Sonoma, or MacArthur Place? Both pretty $$ ($400), but looking for best location, best facility.

We stayed at the Lodge in May, in a cottage room. It was pleasant, and we would stay there again.

We paid around $250, and I don't understand the $400. When are you going? Did you check the specials, and the hotel sites? #-o **==

We will be there Sept. 19th and 20th. It's a Friday/Saturday, so I'm sure that drives up the price. The rate is actually $379 for a cottage room, and includes breakfast. It's the price on the internet, as well as directly through reservations. Hmmmmm, now you've got me thinking!!

We stayed at The Lodge in January of this year through a priceline bid of $85.00. We also stayed in a cottage room. I see that someone else got a room during a weekend in August for $110.00.

I checked, and can't get any lower rate. And the weekdays are sold out. It's a good place, but I'm not sure if it is worth $379.

Thanks Jed! I will keep looking, but at least this way I have something booked to fall back on. Anyone have any other suggestions for a nice hotel or Inn (decided against a B&B) in a good location in Sonoma?

My vote is for MacArthur Place. We have stayed there a few times, the grounds are lovely, great breakfast included, nice pool area and spa, great massages. It is a short 4 blocks to the square. The Lodge is a bit farther down the road, it is a new facility in the last 2 years, and doesn't have the ambiance...although if you could get a cottage for $85 that would be a great deal! Check out Mc. web site, they usually have some kind of a special going.

I agree with Susanna about McArthur Place. The restaurant is good for dinner also. Many locals use it along with The General's Daughter, they are owned by the same woman. She is an amazing story. It's within walking distance of plaza area, but you will need a car to go to the wineries. Enjoy, as it is the best weather time of the year. Also might want to try Della Santina for dinner.

Thanks for all of the advice. I DID check into MacArthur Place - and the best they can offer is $425 (it's for a suite - no regular rooms left). Apparently September is a very busy/$$ time to visit the wine country!

September is the best weather of the year, the wineries are beginning to crush the grapes and the Vintage Festival is on. If you willing to spend the$$$ then this is the best time to visit.

I'm staying at the same resort in August! (Also known as the Sonoma Mission Inn). I've stayed at another Fairmont resort in Maui - the Kea Lani - and loved it. Here's a link for you if you haven't checked it out yet...

Good luck! And enjoy your trip!

Sonoma Mission Inn was recently bought by the Fairmont chain...hence the new name. It is a lovely old historic hotel. Mc.Place and the Lodge are both newer facilities, so it depends what you like. IMO, whichever one has the best rates, either directly thru them or thru priceline, or any other venue, you shouldn't be disappointed in any of the resorts, they are all very nice!
