Somewhere warm in the US for New Year's

I've been fortunate to be able to go on a Caribbean cruise last year over New Years with friends. These same friends and I would again like to go somewhere WARM over New year's, but everything in the Caribbean or with cruises is SOOO expensive. We'd be happy in Florida, but the weather in late December can be 80 - or 40. Any other suggestions for affordable and WARM places for 2008-> 2009 new year's?

I know Florida is technically in the Keys, but I consider the Keys separate from the Mainland... you and your friends may want to look into renting a house in Key West. Also, San Juan, PR, is a lot of fun and beautiful... you can still get some great deals on flights there (and Puerto Rico is technically part of the US). For foreign, relatively affordable travel, have you looked at Costa Rica or Mexico?

Reverse my first sentence- meant to say I know the Keys are technically in Florida... Oops!

San Diego
Tucson is warm in the days, but cool at night.

What do you mean by "warm" -- since it's in capital letter :), I assume you mean caribbean-warm. I don't think there are many places in the US where you can be assured of that kind of warmth on New Year's. For example (in response to the prior poster), both Tucson and San Diego's average high on January 1st is 65 degrees. That may be warm if you're coming from -10, but it isn't caribbean-warm.
