Somewhere cooler than Virginia in August?

Hi-
Looking for somewhere to go in August that is naturally gorgeous (possibly mountains, hiking, water, lots of natural beauty, etc.)
And COOLER than Virginia right now! Would need to be somewhere in the Northeastern US,
or even the Midwest. (or Eastern Canada).
Went to Maine last year and LOVED it, but want to go somewhere new. Don't want big cities. Want nature and beauty. Ideas?
Thanks!
Linda

I'm familiar with what Nova Scotia has to offer------tell me more about where you would go in Vermont or N.H?

Glacier National Park, in northwest Montana...on the border with Alberta, Canada. (Waterton/Glacier National Peace Park)...amazing.

Sounds like Vermont or NH would be a good fit. Both states are alike in some ways, very different in others. Vermont is bucolic, rolling hills and mountains, very charming small villages, very uncommercial. New Hampshire is more rugged, more northwoodsy, more lakes, a little more commercialized, fabulous hiking. Of course there is some of each in both states, but I live on the border so I can see the differences. Although temps may get into the 90's, this is not the norm, and evenings are often in the 50's. There are lots of posts on this forum with good suggestions for both states. In general, Stowe, Woodstock, and Manchester are the most popular areas of Vermont. Jackson, North Conway, Sunapee are popular areas of New Hampshire.

What about Mackinac Island (U.P. Mich) on Lake Huron? No cars. Likes of biking/hiking around the island. Quaint shops. An interesting place. I'm not sure about the weather in Aug.

linda8--

In Vermont, I would head to Stowe-
Stay at the Trapp Family Lodge--
The town of Stowe is nice to walk around in...Vermont also has nice antiquing, if you are into that....
Also home of Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream...

New Hampshire- try the Concord Area--
Lots of green and cool nite air...
Artsy area- fun to walk around in..

What do you like to do????
