GoT, my son wears them out in a year! I wouldn't mind buying them for him if they'd last. I've been wondering if he chews on them between classes. LOL.

I bought a great pair at KMart this year with red velvet top rounded top straps. For $5 (just an old-fashioned girl). Then someone snatched them. Hmmmmm. Do you think it was the same person?

NO ONE PANIC!!! STAY CALM EVERYONE!!!

There is a serial slap snatcher on the loose. Last scene, person was wearing a bathing suit, shades and carrying a bulky bag with flip flops hanging out.

If you see this person, do not attempt to intervene. Call your local authorities at once.

Isn't it strange that serial snatcher takes off with a pair (2 shoes!) and tosses one shoe making his getaway?

Now, where are my glasses, can't find 'em!

All these shoes are scattered around because Star Jones had to throw out 10% of her shoes as part of the wedding pre-nup.

I'v just finished reading the whole thread. GREAT laugh. There's a place in St.John Indiana now called "shoe corner" because of all the shoes on the road. It seems people come from all over the area to deposit their shoes there. It's been going on for years.

We've had various theories -

Ever had a wasp or grasshopper get stuck in your wiperblade and it's still alive and looking at you? The only thing handy while you're speeding down the interstate is a shoe. So you open the window and brush the poor, hapless insect to his final rest but you loose the shoe in the process. I'd stop if it were my shoe but maybe not if it wasn't.

Know how your parents always said, "Don't stick your hand out the window. You'll hit a sign and your hand will be ripped off"...well, you've seen people riding in the car with a foot out the window, haven't you?

Shoes tied to the back of the "Just Married" car fall off in the passionate haste to get to the hotel.

Re: Flip Flops

When I was a kid, my mom called them "zoris", as in, "Hurry up and put on your zoris because we're going to the beach!". As the years went on, "zoris" went out and "thongs" came in, which is the time warp I'm kind of stuck in. Now when I tell my teens, "Hurry up and put on your thongs because we're going to the beach!", they just giggle and say, "Oh my GOD, mom, you WANT us to wear thongs to the beach? You are like the coolest." I have been informed that the shoes are now officially called "Flip Flops" and they range in price from $1.99 to $50.00.
As a side note: Recently I was at a trade show and a guy was selling them. I went up to him and said, "Do you believe me that we used to call these things 'zoris'?" He got a big smile on his face and showed me his purchase order which he sends to China. "Zoris" are what the shoes are called there. I felt so validated.

I know. Way too much information.

Hi Sweet Caroline (love your name and the song). We too use to call them thongs. I don't know when they became flipflops, but I am very careful to not to refer to them as thongs, LOL.

re: roadside shoes. Just saw a stray shoe this Monday when I was bicycling. Was so forlorn-looking would have made a great picture. (Maybe only Fodorites would get the significance, though!)

We saw a movie called "Wag the Dog" where tennis shoes were thus affixed to show support for some bogus war or war hero. Robert deNiro played a "spin doctor" or movie producer (?) who came up with the whole thing. Does anyone remember the exact plot??? I had never noticed hanging shoes before that but have seen them since. Anyone? I'm really serious btw. Is it time to start a poison thread?

Wag the Dog! That's the movie...I couldn't remember the name but remembered the shoe as a show of support for the war hero. Thanks donco!
