Something to do between Denali and Anchorage

We will be driving back to Anchorage from Denali and are looking for a nice place to stop for a few hours - excellent sightseeing? wildlife viewing? short hike?
Thank you in advance.

We went to the Iditarod Headquarters near Wasilla. Spent an hour or so watching a film and touring the small museum. The sled dog ride was a lot of fun (they pull a wheeled sled).

Talkeetna.

Talkeetna is a cute little town with several decent restaurants- you could go rafting or just a calm river cruise. The ranger station is very interesting as they monitor the climbers on Denali.
When we were there, they were arranging a rescue.

You can also arrange glacier flights from there- enjoy

If the weather is clear, you'll have the best views of Denali from Talkeetna.

Independence Mine State Historical Park, plus a walk along the Gold Mint Trail(part of the trail). Both are right near Wasilla/Palmer.
