We were so delighted to discover Jack London Historic Park about a 15-minute drive outside Sonoma proper. A wonderful side trip for the literarily inclined or the outdoors enthusiast. $10 entry fee, well worth it. Trip report here: http://polloplayer.wordpress.com/201...y-of-the-moon/ |
Really neat trip report! I didn't know that Jack London was a socialist, but I forgive him as the author of The Call of the Wild :)

The di Rosa preserve - an art museum on a winery estate - is a 10 minute drive from the town of Sonoma.
http://www.dirosaart.org/ It is an art museum on a 200 acre vineyard estate, complete with wandering peacocks. The art consists of works by Bay Area artists, collected over the years by the owners of the estate. There is a gatehouse gallery, a main gallery, the owner's home, which is a 125 year old winery which had been turned into their residence, and an outdoor sculpture garden as well as a 35 acre lake. For everything except the gatehouse gallery you need to reserve a spot on a tour ahead of time. Everyone I've ever taken there has really enjoyed it. |
