Not travel related. The Lounge would be a better place for this.

Weadles, I just realized that your daughter is probably looking at an apt in a triple-decker, multi-family building? In that case, I suspect no garage, but is there a driveway and who parks there? Is there washer/dryer in her apt or is it shared in the basement? If it's shared, who maintains the machines? Also, who's responsible for snow removal (front steps; sidewalks etc)?

Well if you're paying and signing I guess you get to have a say. Since I was self-supporting mine didn't. And they had never rented an apartment in Manhattan, while a bunch of my friends had - so I knew a lot more.

I guess I'm still not into parents supporting kids after they get out of school (unless they're continuing education versus working).

Although - we still pay part of the freight for my step-daughter in law school (the rest is scholarship and money she inherited from a grandmother) and wouldn;t have considered getting involved in where she decided to live. She consulted friends in Boston and decided based on that.

Geez, nytraveler, Weadles is asking about the safety of the Somerville/Davis Sq neighborhood and about Criaglist; she's not asking for parenting advice. There is no one right way or one wrong way to raise a child. Please take your soap box over to the Lounge.

Sorry, I should've posted this on the lounge. I appreciate the advice I've gotten, and certainly didn't mean to cause a parenting controversy over a few rental/area questions.

To yk: Yes, the apartment is in a three-family home. There's one parking spot for a tenant, plus a washer/dryer in the basement. It's very close to the T, so it does sound very good. We'll see what happens, and thanks for your help and advice!

You win parent of the year, nytraveler. Your award will be sent to your home.
