"not in a million years would I drive one of those things in San Francisco"

I wish the tourists who drive them thought the same thing!!!

<< do you need the car for a week or just a weekend? >>

We're landing SFO Tues am and heading directly to Sonoma. Tues, Wed Sonoma, Thurs Healdsburg and Fri to SF. Departing SF Monday afternoon. In answer to the question: I definitely need it Tues - Fri; the weekend is undecided.

I live here and for the weekend I'd probably just take cabs. Yes, you will likely have to call for one at Legion of Honor but there are often cabs by the De Young.

Also, I'd be surprised if Pizzeria Delfina is impossible as a walk-in for lunch but you might want to have a back-up restaurant in the neighborhood just in case.

Have a great trip. By the way, your Impressionist-Paris doubleheader sounds good to me. I'll have to try that myself.

For dessert after Delfina, walk west on 18th to Bi-Rite ice cream shop (there is a Bi-Rite grocery - the ice cream shop is just off Dolores on the north side of 18th St).

Get a salted caramel cone/dish - it is addictive !!!

Stu - I seem to remember DebitNM mentioning that in a trip report - sounds great!

Good memory, cpg! We did in fact go to BiRite after Delfina and had the salted caramel cone. Yum....

If you can't get into Delfina in the Mission district for any reason, wander down to Valencia St and go to Luna Park! It is our favorite restaurant in SF! Best cocktails and yummy food! You'll have a great time!
