Some Kauai News...
The road to the Hanalei Wildlife Preserve has reopened -- five months after the flood.
And ... The St. Regis Hotel has been sold to the Starwood Corporation. It will be luxuriously renovated and geared to the “very wealthy.” I already thought it was fantastic. But I guess the only class I’ve got is “low.” ;-) |
Thank you for the update. Like you, I wonder just how much more luxurious the St. Regis can become, always seemed pretty high up there to me. Hope the not very wealthy class will still be allowed to cross the lobby for drinks at the bar.
|
I forgot to mention that the recent rains slowed progress on the repairs to the road north of Hanalei. They are hoping for January, but no promises.
The closing of the sale of the St. Regis is scheduled for November. No word yet on when the renovation will begin. I, too, hope the peons will still be permitted to cross the lobby. ;-) As my grandmother said, "Rich or poor, it's nice to have money!" |
6 - 8 ft. shark spotted at Hanalei Bay yesterday. The ocean is closed to swimmers and surfers until further notice. AGGHH!!

Kauai Updates
According to yesterday's Garden Island newspaper the road north of Hanalei might not reopen until the second half of 2019!!!
The Waikoloa Loop trail (at the Kilauea Lighthouse) will reopen tomorrow, but the beautiful dam and garden areas will remain closed, possibly for another year. Still, I can't wait to do the 4-1/2 mile loop through the mahogany forest. |
I appreciate your updates, Songdoc.
|
Thanks, Kathie. I just realized I meant to write the Kilauea GOLF COURSE -- not lighthouse.
|
always appreciate your contributions Songdoc. I am still sad about the damage to Kauai and how long it will take to reopen beyond Hanalei. I guess my snorkeling at Ke'e beach will just have to wait a bit longer.
