Female solo traveler going to Manhattan for a 12 hour trip for a midnight show. Any tips of where to eat or what to see? Flying in on a Saturday pm and flying out on Sunday am. What type of bag should I bring? Over the shouler or a bookbag type?

What do you like to eat and what kinds of things do you like to see? Where are you planning to bring this bag? To the concert? Where is the concert? Where are you staying? When are you coming?

Agree -we need a lot more specifics.

Is this an all night event? Or will you need a hotel?

Where is it taking place? Will they hold luggage (unlikely)?

What is your budget for meals? Are you coming in for the whole day ? Or at what time (so people will know what's open).

Are you staying in a hotel? Are you looking for a safe place to hang out during the wee hours of the morning? What do you need to carry in your bag?

Hey sorry for the delayed response. Nope not staying anywhere flying in Saturday afternoon (around 4pm) and flying out the very next day on the first flight out(8am). Figured before and after the show I would just look around and get something to eat. DEF need a safe place to hang the wee hours of the am. I will be in the Village. And I just need stuff like my phone charger, hat, gloves, scarf, a book (for waiting at the airport)-things like that, and yes the bag will be with me the whole time. I like regular american food-nothing fancy or anything really.

I suggest a shoulder bag for this trip. I think there was an article in the NY Times within the last week regarding late night haunts. I hope someone from New York will help you figure out where to hang out in the wee small hours. Are you sure you don't want a hotel for a night?

Sorry...I shouldn't post so late at night. I always read too fast and miss the point. I see that you will be on your way to an airport by 5a.m. or so...so you really will just see a show and find someplace to eat...and catch a cab. You go, Girl!

There are a number of diners that are open 24/7. I went to menupages.com--selected the village/west village, then diners and coffee shops, then from features open 24 hrs. Here's the list

Florent is not really diner food but French bistro "ish" You'll see people come in after going clubbing.

In Chinatown Wo Hop is open 24/7 and gets lots of kids early morning. There's another place, 69, that's also open. But these are not really places to sit and linger but places to get an inexpensive meal. Chinatown is southeast of the village. (I hope you'll have a map).

I'm not really getting the diff. b/w the 2 bags you're considering. Don't know what kind of show you're going to, but you might want to consider whether the show is a sit down kind of place or whether you'll be standing in terms of the size/heaviness of the bag.

Your max time is b/w 4 pm and midnight. You could go to a Broadway or off Broadway show if you wanted to (they start at 8 pm and end around 10-10:30. You could try buying a discount ticket (if this is an immenint trip) by using a code from Broadwaybox.com or just wait and buy something when you arrive at the TKTS booth (or the box office if you're not on a budget).

If you want to do some sightseeing, there are tour buses that do evening rides. NYpartyshuttle.com does a city lights tour passing most of the well known places. It leaves at 7 pm and finishes at 10 pm. It also goes down to the village and into Brooklyn according to the itinerary

Without knowing what might interest you, we're just taking stabs in the dark or suggesting generic things.

Not sure where your concert is, but be prepared for security inspections at the venue - Madison Square Garden, for example will not allow large shoulder bags/briefcases in, uninspected and the lines are loooong . . . might want to check with the place on its policy. Mclaurie's idea of Florent is a great idea for a post show hangout - great people watching, still fun hip place . . . good food.
