Solo Female, NYC with a Theatre Hotel Location
 

Hi, I'm still in the pondering stages of flying into LaGuardia, taking a limo/shuttle to a hotel that's in a safe, convenient location to the theatre district. My goal is 3 nights, great hotel (no more than $400 a night), Wicked tickets, safe walking to interesting sights......any tips or suggestions? Also wondering if anyone has a suggestion of what hotels (with my criteria) could possibly get me the Wicked tickets.....or do I have to reserve all that ahead of time through the website. Thanks in advance!

I got a single ticket to Jersey Boys from the regular website only about a week before I wanted to go--and at Christmas time, too. Lots of times single tickets are easier to get. Stubhub seems mainly to have multiples, but you might try it, too.

Agree that for a single ticket, try the official ticket seller first. You might also try www.applause-tickets.com and the sold out shows section of broadwaybox.com

As for a hotel, the Michelangelo, the Blakely and the Sofitel are good options near but not in Times Square area. If you want to be in Times Square, Marriott Marquis and the Renaissance are nice. Check hotels' websites and also quikbook.com for prices. There are also specials on travelzoo.com nearer the time of the trip.

The Muse is in a great location for theaters...46th St. right off Broadway.

"Late in the theatre district probably means sometime after 3AM. There is nothing to worry about after the shows get out, or even after going to an after theatre dinner or for drinks.

We really liked the Renaissance in Times Square. The lobby is on the second floor, with doormen and security at street level. We felt very safe as those employees on the street level kept a close eye on who was entering and exiting the building. The hotel itself had more of a boutique hotel feel to it. You should be able to get rates under $400 depending on when you plan to go to NYC.

The Muse is a Kimpton Group hotel. I love staying at one of theirs in SF on solo trips (following business trips).

Try to buy a single Wicked tix as soon as possible. If none are available, then you'll have to go through a broker - but it will be worth it. A fabulous show!

To starrsville: I was going to purchase a Wicked ticket off of ticketmaster.com, altho it was going to cost me $250.....altho, I'd have it on my person......and not have to wait in a line. What do you mean go through a "broker"? I'm new at this.....thanks!

DEFINITELY buy the tix from Ticketmaster!!! They are the official ticket sellers for the show. I thought Wicked would be sold out - and therefore you have to buy on the resale market.

BUY from Ticketmaster - definitely if they have a tix available!!!

This is definitely NOT a luxury hotel, but the Edison is at 227 W. 47th at Broadway. Hard to get a better location for the theatre. With a AAA discount I got $165/night in August.
Again, definitely not luxury, but clean and ok.

Actually, if you have time, I would recommend you wait at TKTS in Times Square and get your ticket to Wicked. My coworkers, who were in NY for a few nights last week, were able to get 1/2 price tickets to Wicked there.

You have quite a budget, so you should do well with lodging. :)

mcnyc, are you sure of that. Half price tickets at the TKTS booth for Wicked? You've got to be kidding, right? Sorry, but something there just doesn't make sense.

I thought I heard wrong myself, but yes, on a Tuesday night, they scored 1/2 tix to Wicked. The next night, they scored 1/2 tix to Pirate Queen. Both of which I recommended they give up on and just pay full price via Ticketmaster (one being popular, one in previews still, I think). They proved me wrong and had a wonderful time.

Perhaps it depends on luck?
