Sofitel O'Hare a good hotel?
I read a post that said Sofitel Michigan Ave. was fabulous. Can anyone tell me if the one near O'Hare is nice? Is it as good as the Hyatt or Marriott, for example? Does $139 sound like a good price for room for 2?

Ohare is not close to Michiagn Avenue. The Ohare Sofitel is a typical busines clas hotel. There is nothing around there of any interest. It is as good as the next if you need to stay close to O'hare. The price is fair but not cheap. If you are planning on spending your time near downtown, Michigan Ave., Rush St., or Lincoln Park stay in the area and not near O'hare.

The downtown Sofitel is about ten years newqer than the O'Hare one. It is within walking distance of a blue line (El) stop, albeit not a pleasant walk. The area is crowded with business hotels and a convention center, the junction of two major highways, some corporate buildings. If you must stay by the airport, it's a decent choice. For most tourists, the downtown/River North/North or South Michigan Avenue areas will be far more interesting.
Whether or not that's a good price depends on the time of year and the convention business in the city. most of the time, you can do as well downtown, although you'll pay $20 a day more for parking downtown. See 877chicago.com or hotrooms.com for hotel deals, and choosechicago.com for a good hotel map by areas. |
I'm assuming this is your first trip to Chicago?
Do not stay at an airport hotel. |
If you are staying at the airport to save money, O' Hare is a good 45 minutes away from the city. You should be able to get really nice hotels downtown by using one of patg's suggestions or by trying Priceline. Be sure to check out bidding for travel first.
If you have to stay out near O'Hare, Priceline has several 4 star hotels you can bid on-Westin, Hyatt, Hilton and Doubletree. |
We are not going into Chicago proper but are flying in late and departing the next day, so an airport hotel is a necessity. Would Sofitel be on a par with Hyatt Regency, Marriott, etc.? Any one with personal experience would be great. Thanks.
