My wife and I went to Venice, Italy. At the stroke of midnight, the fireworks sounded like bombs echoing off the walls and ground of St. Mark's square. Bottle rockets and Roman candles were shot in all directions, including the bell tower! People dancing, some running around sans clothes! Everyone kissing each other and complete strangers the same and opposite sex! Procession through the narrow streets singing what sounded like soccer songs and shouting "Auguri!"

We went to Warren, NJ with our kids to be with old friends. My spouse grew up (I think) to become a MD; his best friend a lawyer. We went next door to the lawyers' neighbors estate for a seafood buffet for starters; dinner served later after much dancing to DJ; then at midnight a dessert buffet....then the doorbell rang. It seems the neighbors across the road were about to set off bookoo fireworks....so....the party all assembled on the steps of the fellow's estate and applauded all the rocketry and then passed out cigars and more champagne. The road outside was a bit frozen as we walked down the hill back home....but it was wonderful.....and my kids got to see that their stodgy old parents were party animals after all.

Went home to Ireland, and got to spend the evening, night, and next morning with family and friends who haven't all been together since we were kids. Oh, I got pissed.

I was in Paris with a friend. We went to a performance of Handel's "Messiah" at the Eglise Madeleine early in the evening, then walked through the traffic-free streets to the Trocadero area, where we watched the fireworks over the Eiffel Tower. Then we walked back to where we were staying in the 17th. The fireworks were totally awesome and the atmosphere and crowds much more low-key and well-behaved than we had expected (or feared). The coolest part for me was being able to walk through the streets of Paris without any car traffic!!! A very memorable evening, even though it was a year early ;-).

I spent the evening in Key West trying my damnedest to have some fun while keeping the boys (and men) off my 15 year old daughter and her friend...my recommendation to those thinking of spending a vacation with teenagers will always be not to expect to ever relax!

We were at a friend's house, looking at the Space Needle, waiting for it to topple over, courtesy of Osama bin Laden (or "Obie" as his friends call him.) Didn't. Sang an auld Scots song, got p*ssed, got k*ssed. Went home and prepared for football overdose. Would have preferred being on the Edinburgh High Street or on Taveuni Island in Fiji (Long. 180).

My boyfriend and I stumbled on a good deal at the Flamingo Hilton in Vegas. We decided to fly into LA and drive to Vegas (needed a little road trip action!)Spent New Year's in the street on the Strip. I was a little disappointed that there were no fireworks but Paris Casino had ballet people repell down their Eiffel and they shot tons of confetti out the top at midnight and Bellagio had their fountain light show at the same time. It was alot of fun and no incredibly bad incidents. Everyone was out to have a good, safe time. It was the most action packed New Years I have ever had!

Went to a fantastic dinner dance at the Wilshire Ebell, a beautiful deco ( I think) building in LA. Food was great, jazz band, piano bar, and disco. Lots of dancing and a great time. I was pleasantly surprised.

I REFUSED to sit home and watch TV, as we've done every year since we've had kids, so I made reservations seven months in advance for the Wisconsin Dells (I know, I know!) We stayed at the Copa Cabana, a hotel with an indoor water park, and enjoyed ourselves with the 6 and 3 1/2 year olds. Even they managed to stay up til midnight (not so hard to do given the noise in the hallways!)
