So many Myrtle Beach questions!
 

Hi y'all.
My SO has that end-of-winter-not-quite-spring lust to play golf. He mentioned a long weekend away in Myrtle Beach and I like to encourage this kind of thinking! I know absolutely nothing about MB and I did a search but there's nothing recent. There are some posts about North MB/South MB, but I don't know the difference, so I come to you for advice.

We're looking for a nice 3 or 4 star hotel. It doesn't have to be posh, just clean and nice. The only one I've looked at on Expedia is Embassy Suites which gets good reviews there. Something like that or Doubletree or La Quinta would be fine but any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Also, what's the difference between North MB and South MB? Is there a nice downtown area with shops and restaurants? And weather-wise, is it warm enough to sit by the pool in mid-March? I don't play golf so I'd be lounging, spa-ing, and doing a little shopping. In the evenings we'd probably want to go out for dinner and a walk or a movie.

And I'm sure my SO would appreciate your golf course recommendations. He's a medium-good golfer.

He will have no problem finding golf. There are over a hundred courses in the area. There is outlet shopping in NMB--go online and register for a book for nice discounts. Tanger outlets.

Litchfield is a hotel/resort that fits your requirements. Very nice. Have several golf courses with the resort. Nearby Pawleys Island and Murrels Inlet with good nearby restaurants and shopping.

Hampton Inn has an Oceanfront location south of downtown that gets good reviews.

When you determine your hotel, ask about golf course affiliations. Your SO should consider a package with the hotel. Prices are dramatically better choosing courses connected with hotels.

March weather is uncertain. Could be 75 and sunny every day yet still could be cool.

Is NMB nicer than SMB?

I do not think so. IMHO, either North or South are preferrable to staying downtown. At one time, North had more shopping. I do not believe that is true anymore.

I've seen some great golf packages for MB this spring, so do some research.

would verry much second Sump's rec of Litchfield. I am really unsure, however about the Hampton Inn being oceanfront "south of downtown". The one I know is across the road from the entrance to Litchfield by the Sea. It is VERY nice.
But Litchfield is very nice for dining (Murrell's Inlet and Pawleys within 5 miles) and is MUCH quieter and pleasant. They will have oceanfront accomodations, and that will be a bit off season, and rates are very nice.
The Litchfield Inn is a beachfront hotel and I believe has been completely renovated by now. It's been a number of years since we stayed there, but it's location is wonderful, as is the hotel at Litchfield by the Sea.

On Expedia there are two Litchfields. The Litchfield Inn, which gets poor reviews, and the Litchfield Beach and Golf Resort, which gets pretty good reviews. I assume you mean the latter, right?

Alas, the heart is willing but the calendar says no, no, no. [-X We can't find a weekend to do this. Thanks for your suggestions though -- I'll use them next time.

Yes, the resort is very very nice. The Inn may be sketchy, but not impossible, is on the beach and could be cheap. Sorry it isn't working out.
I need to go down there next time we are at our place and check it out for better information.
