snowmobiling
 

We would like to take our two college-age daughters snowmobiling over the holidays in the Western or Southwestern U.S.A. Where are the best places? Thanks for any suggestions.

Wyoming gets my vote, not really sure if you would consider it a western state of not, but to me it is. The Yellowstone and Jackson Hole are beautiful and they have many snowmobile tracks.

I've taken snowmobile tours in Breckenridge, Colorado and Lake Tahoe, Nevada. Both were great fun. Word of advice... get the optional insurance.

Now there's a travel oxymoron. Beautiful and snowmobile tracks in the same sentence!

Stella, don't knock it until you try it. I am a huge fan of cross country skiing where you truly do experience the peace and quiet of the wilderness and the beauty of a pair of lone ski tracks in the fresh snow. BUT, the exhiliration of riding a snowmobile up to the Continental Divide and looking at the vista from 14,000 feet is something else! And I sure wouldn't want to have to get there on my own steam.

Sorry Grasshopper. Snowmobiles have no place in the wilderness or the National Parks. IMHO they ruin the environment, and destroy the peace and quiet beauty of those places. If you want exhiliration ride a roller coster.

Karen:<BR><BR>West Yellowstone is a well known snowmobile takeoff point for Yellowstone Park in the winter. Also, there are hundred of miles of trails in an adjoining national forest so I am told. <BR><BR>My wife, son and myself fly out to do the snowmobile thing on 12/27.<BR><BR>Regards,<BR><BR>Robert

Ah, come on... what Stella said is hardly harrassment! Simply her heartfelt beliefs. And since this is America, and last time I checked, we still have free speech rights Stella is welcome to express those. It's pointless to try to change her mind (tree hugger that she is) and this is a forum for all opinions. While I talk about the exhiliration of snowmobiling, it is REALLY noisey! That must be annoying as hell to non-snowmobilers and tree huggers alike! <BR><BR>And I can't reiterate enough... take out the optional insurance! (my friend left $900 behind after hitting a tree)
