Snowmagedden!
Well, the weather folks were right, Colorado has gotten a boatload of snow.
We were beginning to doubt them, because when we went to bed last night there were only about four inches, but this morning we woke to this, and it's still coming down like gangbusters. Sure glad I rescheduled my COVID vaccine from tomorrow to Thursday. I'm also happy that some of our southern visitors took the forecast seriously and cancelled their spring break ski trips to CO. Snow is a wonderful thing, until you have to drive in it:) https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fod...67879b8a5f.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fod...05c3b50c1d.jpg |
Stay warm and safe, Melnq8! It is beautiful though.
|
Impressive!
I've been watching the Weather Channel off and on since yesterday. It has shown clips from their video files of people being snowed in... very similar to your window pic. |
Yeah, we're not going anywhere anytime soon, but that's fine with us.
|
Holy smokes! I saw on the news that Denver was going to get hit pretty good, but I did not think that meant a foot and a half of snow.
|
Yeah, much of the state affected. We're not in Denver, but at 8,500 feet in the mountains. We went out to knock some snow from the trees, but it was futile. The snow is waist deep in some places and it's still coming down.

well, a foot and a half of snow isn't that unheard of, we've had that much snow where I live and it's not the Rockies. Not in four years, though, due to global warming, but 18 inches of snow isn't that terrible, you just don't go anywhere for a couple days. As long as it stops and then you can shovel out. I wish it snowed more where I live, it hardly snows at all any more. It's really the death of the ski industry around here, I think several resorts here have to close next week due to warm weather so much this winter and so little snow.
I just love it when it snows, it's so nice to just stay in, light the fire and not have to go anywhere or do any yardwork. |
Wow!

The other thing about that much snow in Denver is that while the main roads will get plowed as best they can, the neighborhoods are really snowed in for days. That surprised me one time when we were there--but not for this much.
DS said the last time they had this (he suggested around 2004) he and his neighbor shovelled a path to their houses so the children could play together. The other big thing is roof collapses as Nelson mentioned about getting his roof cleared--that's why they have concrete tiles! . DS says this snow is heavy and wet--as he says just an added bonus. Snow days ARE fun--love them--but once danger is out of the way. |

This is what our patio looked like last night when we went to bed. Our neighbor spent five hours snow blowing and only finished half his driveway. We're in for a long day of digging out. It wouldn't be so bad if we could just rely on the solar snowplow, but our driveway faces north and it'd be a very long wait. Gretchen - you're right - many residential side streets never get plowed. |
I shoveled about 2/3 of our driveway yesterday before deciding I needed a break. We share a narrow median with our neighbor so all the snow has to go to one side. That pile was getting too high for me so I started carrying it by the side of the house. Finally I needed a break, thinking it was time to hire some strong neighborhood kids, or wishing I had mel's snowblower!
I was going to finish in the afternoon but by then the blizzard wind was so strong it was pointless, not to mention dangerous to even leave the house. This morning it's calm and beautiful, we'll finish up then go for a walk through the neighborhood to a nearby park and bike trail. Temperatures in the 40's this week so it will slowly start melting off. Our street never gets plowed. P.S. We did talk to our roofer on Friday, he said not to worry about it for this one and he was correct. There are a number of good sized branches down around the neighborhood however. |
I don't envy you shoveling Nelson. I hope you have a gentle driveway.
Just snapped this as snow blowing is underway. Our daily walk has been indefinitely postponed:) https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fod...7655264f7a.jpg |
Looks nice up there mel, but you do have some work yet!
This snow was really heavy and dense. Fortunately our driveway is gentle, shorter than average, and south facing. All part of the plan when we bought the house. Here's a shot of the bird feeders in our patio taken yesterday at 10:30 AM, when we still had eight more inches of snow on the way. In a month or so we'll be sitting under an umbrella at the table with drinks, there will be flowers all around, and the trellis will be covered with clematis. https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fod...991ec146f4.jpg |

Looks nice there too Nelson...and a very good plan! |

Wow!!! Melnq8! that is a lot of snow!! It looks beautiful!
|
Whoa snow!!
I agree it looks beautiful! Reminds me of marshmallow Hope you guys are all keeping warm. Melnq8, I also hope your arm is fully healed! |
Thanks DGCommittee, wrist is pretty much back to normal.

Yikes. I have had more snow this year then in the past few years and while pretty to look at, not fun to shovel. We actually got some snow flurries yesterday and while I don’t go outside much, I did today and saw the flowers are starting to sprout so made me smile. I promise, your flowers are coming soon too.

We are lazy but the HOA didn't show up till Tuesday afternoon to clear the driveway. Someone gets to be first and someone has to be last. I think we were close to last this time. But we were not going anywhere so it didn't make an difference. It was the fourth snowiest storm in Denver. We have had lived through the four of the ten winter storms in Denver. Nice to be retired for this one. But it was 43 today and it is surprising how quickly 24" can shrink to 10". And March is our snowiest month so we are right on schedule.
