Snowboarding Trip for a week - Whistler or Lake Tahoe?

Which is better as far as trails and things to do other than snowboarding/skiing?

end of november to december.

i can probably snowboard 3 days max... so what else would there be for me to do the other 4 days?

i heard vancouver is a great city to explore and is close to whistler so i'm thinking that would be a better choice. but what about lake tahoe?

Snow iffy in both places in late November. Probably more so in Tahoe.

Snow VERY iffy in Tahoe in late November, early December. I wouldn't chance it coming from back east. Don't know about Whistler.

We have had fine skiing and boarding at Whistler at Thanksgiving. They try very hard to open by then with all lifts and runs useable, making snow if necessary. There is lots to do in the village as far as "apres-ski". It would be a long drive back to Vancouver just for the day or evening, but you could expore on the way to or from Whistler.

Just remember if you are goin gthis next year---November 2009---that they are gearing up for the winter Olympics. That may or may not affect prices in November.

Most likely not enough snow in Tahoe at that time of year to make a trip there worth it. While it's ok for locals who don't have the expense of traveling to go snowboarding during that time I would not advise relying on enough snow for your trip.

I wasn't going to respond, since I haven't been to Tahoe (and thus can't compare the two). BUT, I have been to Whistler and Vancouver. Would definitely recommend staying in Whistler for a few days then staying in Vancouver for the remainder of the time. Whistler has awesome skiing/snowboarding. The village is really great; very reminiscent of a European ski village. Vancouver is a lovely cosmopolitan city with lots of things to see and do.

I did Tahoe over New Years several years ago- they barely had a base, lots of rocks sticking out, and there were a few spots where it was like skiing in a frozen margarita.

I've never been to Whistler, but for your time frame, I would avoid Tahoe.
