We were there two weeks ago and they were planning on closing the roads that close for the winter the day we left due to the prediction of snow. Sounds like the forecast was right.

Many feet of new snow in the Sierras. The trees in Yosemite Valley are laden with snow. The webcam of the high Sierras is all white. It's all deep snow. Yosemite Falls have never looked so beautiful!

All the roads in the Park are closed because of snow. Call for information.

Both Hwy 50 and I-80 are also closed. Snow level as low as 1000 feet in a few areas, 2000 feet almost everywhere else. BIG storm.

Thanks for posting the link to the web cams. I noticed that the one of the ski area showed no people, does that mean it is no longer active or is it closed when the roads are closed?

Couldn't find the specific web cam you mention . . . But NO ski area in the state is closed now. This is their busiest time of year with the Feb holidays (other than Christmas which sometimes doesn't have great snow).

If people can't get to them because all the highways are closed, then it will only be a few locals skiing/snow boarding, but they will be open. As soon as the roads re-open the crowds will descend on them . . .

The road leading to the former Badger Pass is closed because of snow.

Mammoth Mountain has only five lifts and the village gondola operating. They can't let people ski on the new snow until they've made sure there won't be an avalanch and they can't do that until it stops snowing.

Sometimes they close down a resort if there is a storm and high winds. Right now Heavenly is open but some lifts are closed and, of course, many people work during the week and can't go skiing on Tuesday if they live locally. Aside from the highways being closed. You can see one lift on the webcam at Heavenly and there are maybe a dozen people in the camera.

Mammoth has a notice on their website that the main lodge is closed due to heavy snow and blizzard conditions and operations are limited today.

Which I took to mean is the resort closed down, or do snow bound roads close resorts.

Several ski resorts in the Eastern Sierra and Tahoe remained closed Tuesday because of a blizzard that dropped as much as 9 feet of snow in the biggest storm system so far this season.

A winter storm warning remained in effect until 4 p.m. Tuesday for Mono County, home of Mammoth Mountain and June Mountain resorts, the National Weather Service said, noting that “travel will be dangerous. Snowfall rates and winds will create periods of zero visibility.”

“We had so much snow it takes awhile to safely open the mountain,” spokesman Tim LeRoy said Monday.

I sent my son a photo of the snow here where I live in the Sierra Foothills at about 3,000', not particularly unusual though there hasn't been much for several winters. He responded telling me there was snow last night where he lives, too, in La Honda, a few miles from the ocean in San Mateo County, south of San Francisco, elevation 700' !! Now THAT'S unusual.

Roads in Yosemite are closed until at least midday today, February 6. The snow has caused trees to fall, further blocking the roads, and so it takes a bit longer to clear than just snow. However, the sun is out and the pics online are fabulous!

Heavy snowfall this week at Yosemite National Park has toppled trees, knocked out power and damaged campgrounds, and some roads and facilities including the ski area remained closed Friday, officials said.

No one was injured during the storm, which from Monday through Wednesday dumped 18 to 24 inches of snow on Yosemite Valley and several feet in the high country.

The park is open, but all visitor services at Half Dome Village remained closed Friday, as the damage was assessed and repairs begun.

About 50 guest cabins at Half Dome Village were damaged or destroyed, as well as 50 to 70 housing units for concession employees, National Park Service officials said. Alternative housing was being arranged for about 150 workers.

Upper Pines Campground, which was deemed unsafe after trees fell on its restrooms, also remained closed Friday, as did Yosemite Ski and Snowboard area, officials said.

No damage estimates have been compiled and it is not known when all of the facilities will be reopened.

“Visitor and employee safety remains the highest priority for the National Park Service and the park concessioner,” the statement from the park service said. Officials advised visitors to check the park and concessioner websites for updates on openings and operating hours.

Road closures and delays could continue over the next several days along Big Oak Flat Road (Highway 120 West), Wawona Road (Highway 41) and El Portal Road (Highway 140) inside within the park, officials said.

Another series of storms is due in over the next 10-ish days . . .

Staff and a few tourists in Kings Canyon NP were rescued yesterday by snow machines owned by the US Forest Service.
We're going to get a couple more feet of snow in the Oregon Cascades over the next week.

And in the spring, the Merced will flood and the waterfalls will be epic. Snowpack is currently 130% of normal with more snow on the way.
