Snow fall at Mount Rainier
I would like to plan a weekend trip in February to someplace where I'm guaranteed to see falling snow. Does anyone know if Mount Rainier is such a place?
|
You will be guaranteed to see fallen snow.
You may be more likely to see falling snow at Snoqualmie Pass, on I-90, and Stevens Pass, on Highway 2. HTTY |
That's impossible to predict. Same as asking if it is going to rain on the day you are visiting. It's not like it snows every day, anywhere.
|
The nature of the question would indicate an OP who does not live in snow country. Would the OP be prepared to drive in snow?
|
Fallen snow and Falling snow are two different things.
|
Sorry but it is am impossible promise. If you truly want *guaranteed* snowfall I think you need to go to a different area. Somewhere that has snow all the time. Like New England states or parts of Canada.
Mt Rainier WILL have snow on it. But we cannot *guarantee* you to see it falling from the sky on any given day. |
You can keep your eye on this site:
http://www3.wcc.nrcs.usda.gov/nwcc/s...ate=washington Then you'll know how much fallen snow will be around the area. If you have flexible dates then keep an eye on this page: http://weather.unisys.com/gfsx/gfsx....region=us&t=7d That link is always 7 days in the future and will give you odds of seeing falling snow. |
I agree with the other posters. No one can guarantee falling snow, but snow in February -- especially in a La Nina year like this -- is pretty likely! Crystal Mountain is on the northeast corner of Mt. Rainier National Park and offers a Gondola for non-skiers (and skiers) that will take you to 6872' -- a pretty incredible experience regardless. You can have lunch every day at the Summit House at the top, or dinner on Saturday nights. They also offer a snowshoe tour on Saturday afternoons/evenings at the top of the Gondola. Crystal has a lot of links on the weather page of their website that will give you an idea of the forecast. The only issue is that you usually have to plan ahead for a weekend stay. We especially like staying at Alta Crystal Resort since they have a hot tub and 90-degree pool, with trails through the national forest from your door. But no one can guarantee falling snow!
