Snorkeling trip for non-swimmers
We will be heading to Maui soon and two out of the four of us want to do a snorkeling trip to Molokini. One of the four doesn't swim well and the other just doesn't care for snorkeling. If the two that don't want to snorkel want to still sit on the boat and enjoy the view, is the charge the same for all or is there a less charge for those who don't snorkel (just curious)?
Thanks! |
Same price (you're taking up the space, after all) , but think about wearing a floatation vest or using a floatboard. (Not my favorite thing; too crowded, plus diesel smells; I'd rather sit on the beach and read a magazine if I didn't want to snorkel.)

You might consider doing snuba instead of snorkeling.

This may not help but I was not a snorkeler until I went to Maui. We snorkled in Honolua Bay which is north of Lahaina. It is a protected cove with very little surf and it was very easy. My daughter was only six and not a strong swimmer - we used one of those flotation vests - and she did just great. The variety of fish was wonderful. On one day we saw turtles, we saw squid on another day.
You can probably get a map from the Snorkel Bob shops. |
Same price. Definitely take one of the vest. Even if you're a good swimmer it's easier to have the help.

Yes, those flotation vests are definitely recommended. Snorkeling is harder than it looks.
“Snorkeling is a physically demanding activity. You’re not just floating there, but constantly moving, dealing with the currents,” says Jim Howe, operations chief for Honolulu’s Ocean Safety Division, “Tourists often overestimate their ability and underestimate the challenges of the environment.” |
Do a search on this forum. Molokini snorkeling is not highly recommended. Most people recommend the day trip to Lanai instead, in which case some of you can snorkel, and others can engage in more land-based activities.

I've done the Molokini snorkeling trip, but a good friend of mine and her family did the Lanai trip and that did, indeed, sound much better.
