Snorkeling St. George

Asked about Key West and ruled that our but am wondering if there is good snorkeling on or near St. George? Love the Carribean but am trying to find a good snorkel spot in the US.

The Keys are going to have the best snorkeling in Florida.

St George as in the gulf? The gulf is a bathtub. Shallow tub of water with sand bottom. You're going to have to have coral to have good snorkeling. The fish need a habitat to hang out in/around to give you good snorkeling. In the gulf you can put your mask in the water and wait for a fish to swim by. The only reason to put a snorkel in while at the gulf (that I can think of) would be to go scalloping in St Joe Bay or to swim with the manatees at Crystal River. Other than that, snorkeling in the gulf is pretty much the equivalent of snorkeling in a swimming pool.

Coral. You are looking for coral.

Those are your options in the US.

Definitely Pennekamp
Maybe Bahia Honda
The ferry to the Dry Tortugas NP

Sort of in US - USVI
Buck Island NM off St Croix = WONDERFUL

i go to St George every year and i dont see snorkeling--theres no coral, just oyster bars--water is usually not clear--fishing is great--Id email the Chamber of Commerec in Appalchicola and ask them--i use a guide who is a marine biologist--if you want to contact him re-post--there is a spot on west coast of Florida that has super clear water--ill ask my wife the name--its a tourist spot
