Snorkeling in Oahu
 

I have to go to Honolulu for business, but have a couple of spare days. I'd really like to go snorkeling, but I will be by myself and have never snorkeled before. Would people reccommend one of the morning snorkel/catamaran cruises or is there a better alternative?

Hanauma Bay - but get there as soon as they open the parking lot in the morning. By midday, it's a zoo. There is a stand that will rent you a snorkel, mask and fins. Have a great time.

Another vote for Hanauma Bay!

Agree wtih Hanauma bay for near Honolulu. But since you have a few spare days...If you'd like to combine snorkeling with a drive out of Honolulu, head for the island's North Shore. Just past Waimea Beach is a little area called Sharks Cove wtih good, easily accessible snorkeling. There won't be nearly as many people as at Hanauma Bay, and it'll give you a chance to see another part of beautiful Oahu!

Like everyone else says, Hanauma bay. I had an eel swimming underneath me as soon as my snorkel hit the water. It's a great spot for a beginner because the snorkeling is literally 5 steps from the beach and there are lifegaurds on duty. You'll see many varieties of fish too. Everyone mentions going early, but one day we went late afternoon (4 pm) and it wasn't crowded at all. Just in case you can't get there early.


Sharks Cove is really nice too, if you go there make sure to spend time exploring the rocky ledges for sea turtles. I saw 5!
