as there is no lodging in the park, what are some places to stay in the area? we are looking for nature and cabins ; such as you would get in a national park out west
Thanks Melissa |
Try Gatlinburg; that's what we'll be going this year in Sept.

Melissa, the NPS site lists links for the various communities surrounding GSNP.... http://www.nps.gov/grsm/pphtml/lodging.html
Last year my husband and I stayed near Robbinsville at Snowbird Mountain Lodge, a wonderful retreat for couples, but not really designed for kids. Are you looking for a couples getaway, or it this a family vacation? |
it is a family vacation

I've been wondering about the Snowbird Mountain Lodge, glad someone has commented on it, have driven by it on our way to the Cherohala Skyway and Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest many times, so thanks for the info. May have to try that out for a night or two in the future without the kids. Murphy has many cabins too, as well as the Bryson City area. Gatlinburg is very touristy, so if you're not into that, I would skip it. We are from FL and try to avoid touristy areas since we deal with that year round down here, and we found that Murphy is a good home base location for most activities in the NC, TN and GA mountains. You may want to try looking at Maggie Valley too. Try Stayinnc.com and search under various towns, Murphy, Maggie Valley, Bryson City, Franklin, etc. If you need more info, feel free to email me. Good luck!
