Is smoking allowed in the casinos?

Unfortunately. There is usually a small non-smoking area in most casinos though.

Yes the newer hotels all have pretty good ventilation systems tho so it is not as horrible as it once was.

I'm not sure if you want to smoke or want to avoid it by your question. If you do, you sure can. If you want to avoid smoke you can usually find places tables/slot machines where there is "less smoke". I just get up and move when a smoker sits near me. Another good place to play (if you can) is near an outside exit door. Fresh air comes in regularly !!!

Yes, Vegas is one of the few 'live & let live' places left in the US. (I am a non-smoker BTW.) Although I do enjoy the occasional cigar...

Smoking is so allowed in Vegas that smokers go crazy. They smoke in the swimming pools (right next to kids, another reason not to bring them there), in elevators(!) that go to walkways, in bathrooms (yuk), everywhere feet can trod. I was washing my hair twice per day. Some casinos are better than others (the Venetian has good ventilation), but even non-smoking areas stink.

Smoke is not as bad ( all things being relative) in the newer casinos with the higher ceilings. If you don't want to turn blue and choke til you lose consciousness, don't go to the Golden Nugget etc in Old Town..
No matter where you are though, you will smell and it will linger until you get home and wash everything.
tip Take your suitcase somewhere , leave it open and use sachets etc inside after you get home, or next time you pack, your things will smell like they went to Vegas without you..

On the on the other hand...

Yes smoking is allowed in casinos.

There are a couple of non smoking tables but for the most part, you can puff away and many people do. As a sidelight, most poker rooms are non smoking.

Yes, smoking is allowed, but some casinos have non-smoking section. It doesn't help if you're allergic or asthmatic.

But if you need just to go through a casino, the ventilation is good.

dukey, I wish I'd thought of that! But I guess I don't like to intrude on personal space the way smokers do (hate to leave a winning machine because someone sits next to me and starts to exhale my way...)

In NJ, where all restaurants & bars are now smoke-free, smoking is still (and will always be) allowed in Atlantic City casinos.

It has apparently been decided that the majority of gamblers are also smokers.

We visited Foxwood a number of years ago and they had a smoke-free casino, not simply a non-smoking section.

Suerich, I was hoping that the AC casinos would go smoke free along with the restaurants and bars. Oh well!

Re Vegas, I didn't notice anywhere being particularly smokey (meaning more than usual I'd expect in a bar or casino) and found all to be better than AC. I feel like the ventilation systems in Vegas are much better than AC....

The Luxor is kind of bad for smoke, stayed there last time out & it just seemed to linger everywhere.

So if Vegas casinos were to be smoke free like the rest of North America is going ...

Would they lose money?

Yes, unfortunately. I don't think they'll ever outlaw it in NV. It's horrible. It even wafts into restaurants. Hate it, hate it, hate it.

There was one smoke free casino in Reno and it took about three year I think for them to go bankrupt. I think smoke free anywhere is great, but in a casino? It will not happen. Its a hard phenominon to explain and I don't think most of you would "get it" anyway. I don't mean that as a "put down", but visiting a gambling town for a few days of fun and living in a gambling town are two different things. Also, I don't know about all the other cities and state across the country but Nevada has always done things "their way". There is a long history of that and for many years Nevada was the ONLY state in the union with gambling. Who can say for sure, but I think if it ever happens where there is no smoking in casinos, it won't come to Nevada for a long time. Having said that, a lot of the casinos ARE making their restaurants non-smoking.

A smoke free casino in Las Vegas also went under several years ago, can't remember the name, perhaps the Westward Ho or something like that. Hard to believe that a casino actually went under here but it does happen every now and then.
