Small Hotels in San Antonio

Hello. I am looking for some ideas on where to stay in San Antonio. I would like to stay in a small, upscale, spa-type hotel. I have been to San Antonio many times and have always stayed in the mega hotels on the Riverwalk. They are nice but I would like something different this time. Any suggestions? Thanks. Betsy

Not sure what you mean by mega-hotel-- Hilton? Marriott?? Here are a few suggestions... I would check Fodors.com and tripadvisor.com for reviews and information. I hope you find what you're looking for.

Hotel Valencia
Menger Hotel
Havana Riverwalk Inn
Emily Morgan
Riverwalk Vista Inn
La Mansion Del Rio

AnnMarie, Thank you for your suggestsions. The Havana sounded perfect, but, unfortunately, was booked for the time I needed it. I have stayed at the Marriott Riverwalk and Marriott Rivercenter as well as the Hilton, St. Anthony, Menger, Radison and others. What I am hoping for this time is something more relaxing and comforting. A lovely B and B would be nice. Thanks again for responding. Any other thoughts? Betsy

The Watermark Hotel and Spa is small, and very very nice, on the Riverwalk, sister hotel to La Mansion. It may be new since you were here last.

For B&B, look into Oge House in the King William District. I've never been in, but love the beautiful old exterior, and would love to stay in the King William District--serene historic residential area away from the madness of the central Riverwalk, but not not so far you couldn't walk it. They've got a vast lawn that backs up to a portion of the river that the average tourist never sees.

Sounds like the Watermark is just the ticket - upscale spa is its genre. It enjoys a Riverwalk location but is not in the thick of the commercial section.

Did you stay at the WaterMark?? I stayed there last year and service was horrible, room dirty-big stains on the carpet, food crumbs on the floor, bathroom floor dirty. We talked to the manager 4 times in 24hours!
