This happened to my aunt on a Kansas to California road trip with three of us kids and my mother. We were in Albequrque, and after a quick shower in the hotel, she ran to a local quick shop for some groceries. Well, she hadn't bothered to put on her undies and while walking to the car from the store, with grocery bags in each hand, a gust of wind blew her dress up over her head. It took a few seconds for her to recover, but that was plenty long for the truckers standing near by to get the sight of their lives!

We were in Puerto Vallarta on a trip with my in-laws. We were very newly married and I was still adjusting to my new "family." We decided to go para-sailing. When it was time to pull the cord to return to shore, I somehow messed it up and had they had to take my around again, almost landing in the water. I was soooooooo scared, and sooooooo embarrassed. I started crying when I finally made it to shore and was since dubbed as the coward in the family. LOL

Most recently, we were loading into the boat on the Pirates of the Carribean ride and somehow my hair, which was up in a comb, caught on a girl's button on her shirt while she was loading the boat and literally pulled my head all the way back. I started screaming, causing a total scene. My hubby and daughter were in hysterics laughing and I was furious!!!! The madder I got, the more they laughed. Wow, I hadn't thought of that incident in awhile!! LOL ***kim***

Travelisfun, I direct you to the following website (which your post reminded me of):

http://www.lileks.com/institute/frahm/

Anyway, I almost made a spectacle of myself falling off the Eiffel Tower on my first trip to Paris. I was standing with my back to the elevator door as the elevator went up. The elevator stopped and I heard the door behind me open, so I turned around as I started out the door.

Unfortunately, we weren't at a landing at all--I stepped onto a wide beam, with all that empty space in the center of the tower another step in front of me. I heard the elevator door finish opening and immediately begin closing again. I had enough time (barely) to swing my camera bag in front of the closing door, which prevented it from closing completely. I then pushed and pulled and finally got the door open wide enough for me to slip back into the elevator. As soon as I let go of the door, it closed and the elevator immediately started to rise again before stopping at the first normal landing.

So thankfully, I didn't trip or fall in this instance--otherwise, I would've had my 15 minutes of fame (which I'm still waiting for).

My most embarrassing travel moment occurred on a plane. I just finished using the facility and had turned to flush but had not yet pulled my pants up. Suddenly the plane banked rather sharply and the bathroom door flew open thereby causing me to "moon" a male passenger and several flight attendants. Not sure who was the most horrified. I always double check the lock on the door after that. Oh well, at least I was twenty three and still had a nice body.

Okay - so not a slip or fall, but I think this would qualify as making a spectacle of myself...

My husband and I were flying to San Francisco and this was the first time I had flown since developing an extreme fear of flying three years before. I was in the middle seat, my husband on the aisle and a man was beside me in the window seat. I was quite nervous pre take-off and told the man in the window seat that I was afraid of flying and I hoped that I didn't do anything to annoy him. He laughed and said as long as I didn't throw up on him he didn't mind what I did (this of course just made me more nervous because until then I hadn't considered the possibility of throwing up!) Well, we began to taxi down the runway and I started to sob uncontrollably, so I put my head between my knees and buried my face in my hands and tried to make as little sound as possible, but this position is cutting off my air supply and I am beginning to hyperventilate! My husband in patting my back and people around him are offering him condolences! (one older women even offered him a hard candy from her purse to make him feel better!) I keep my head in my hands for about a half hour, trying to cry as softly as possible and then I am pretty quiet for the rest of the trip...until landing! When we've touched down I apologize to the man beside me and he tells me he would have preferred it if I threw up on him!

The worst part of it is that we saw this man twice (what are the odds?!) while we were in San Fran! Once when we were disembarking the ferry at Alcatraz and he was boarding (I averted my eyes and so did he) and then again when we were visiting a winery in Napa, but that time he didn't avert his eyes, instead he pointed and shouted out to his friends "there she is, that's the woman from the plane!" - and I came to the mortifying realization that I had become his really-bad-seat-companion-on-a-plane story!

The good news is that I am now over my fear of flying! But we still laugh about that poor man (I hope he isn't posting here!)

kireland - I hope you won't be offended by me telling you that your post made me laugh! I can't believe you saw the guy on the plane again! Glad to hear you're over your fear of flying - for many reasons!

I shared my stomach bug flying nightmare here. On that flight from hell, I wanted to be the last one on the plane with my son, who was at that time quite ill. A woman was there with her husband and mom - who was very afraid to fly, and very nervous. They also wanted to be the last one on the plane. Her husband was not sympathetic, and was probably wondering who had it worse - him or me. I remember thinking that this would be a great episode for Airline - and let the viewers decide which would be the worse seatmate. (As it turned out, my son was, but at least he was sitting by my other son and my husband).

Just thought of another funny mishap that just happened on our most recent trip to Astoria, OR. We were in the movie theatre last December and my cell phone rang, the guy sitting next to me was furious and shouted, "Turn that %^^% thing off!" I was so furious that I told him it was an emergency (I lied) that he was being a total jerk.

I then proceeded to get the manager and told her the guy was really being a meanie. She stood there by him for about fifteen minutes glaring at him, then left when she saw he was through yelling at me.

We were in Astoria again last week, and decided to see another movie. We walk in and the SAME guy is sitting there again. What are the odds of this happening? My daughter looked at me and begged,"Mom, please turn off your phone." I don't know if the guy recognized me, but I sure remembered him. LOL

What kind of made me angry was that he thinks it's fine to sit there and chat during the movie, also sneaks in tons of food in his little containers, then has the nerve to yell at me about my phone ringing. Grrrr.... ***kim***
