I have to agree with the layering. It's very unpredictable - it can be warm one day and cold the next - we recently had a day in the 70s followed by a day in the low 50s. Also, because the weather is so confusing, some places have heat, some air conditioning. For example, yesterday walking into a department store I was met with a blast of heat and then on the subway the air conditioning was on - in both cases the temperature control was appropriate but you can see how you might want the option to adjust.
You will see everything here. Thick down winter coats with flip flops! I think a sweater or two, with your rain type jacket and long sleeves should be fine. And if it's not, it's a good excuse to shop! Have fun! |
Also just to let you know the evenings are going to be very cold. Tonight will be 28 and the following days up to Sunday will be 32 degrees. That's definately not flip flop weather.

Any decent walking shoes (some leather sneakers - but by no means all) are waterproof (solid where the sole connects to the shoe - so the water doesn;t come in when you walk in the rain). Not waterprooof boots for standing around in streams.
And FYI - we had flurries again this AM. |
I think the weather here this week is preparing me! It is cold, and getting colder. I think I am skipping the sunrise service.
You guys have given me a good grasp of what to bring. I have added a couple of sweaters, and jeans go either way. Probably need something warmer for the Broadway show. I really had put my gloves up but, as previously said, need them here now. That wind hurts! |
Flurries in NYC this morning and high of mid 40s predicted for easter.

I thought of this this morning....
Watch the Today Show and see what people in the square are wearing. That will give you a guide to the weather and how to dress. This morning there were lots of scarfs and gloves. Just an idea! |
uh... it's 34 degrees right now. you certainly should wear gloves and a coat!
|
Believe it or not it was 28 here this morning....colder than New York. My daughter and I were out this morning and came back in and changed our minds again...turtlenecks.

Hi,
As a person who lives in manhattan, i will say that you have gotten excellent advice on this thread.......all of the posters were right on.....i had to laugh at the idea that there are so many weirdos here that nobody will even notice you or what you are wearing.....how true...... It has been very cold here and i was even chilly yesterday in a down jacket ......the wind chill...brrrrr i must admit that i am guilty of the flip fops and down jacket outfit as well......sometimes i am too lazy to put on shoes so i run out barefooted with a down coat.... i would bring either a down jacket to throw over everything or a lined raincoat with blazers, pantsuits, jogging outfits and sweaters to layer.......gloves , yes, scarf , yes, Maybe we will all be lucky and have some beautiful weather , but it pays to be prepared.....even if it warms up, we will not be ready with our lightweight clothes out yet, so everyone will just "make do" Enjoy |
uga
The wind and moisture in NY can make it feel cooler than it is -- all those narrow corridors of streets with tall buildings act like wind funnels. Your last post sounded like you've got a grasp on what to do. Layers are best if you're out all day, you can always change to something special for the theatre and cab that part if it's colder than your outfit/footwear. Have a great time. |
uga....I was in NYC 2 weeks ago, and also wasn't sure what to pack. In every picture of me, I'm wearing my denim jacket, my wool scarf, and my purple leather gloves. :) Do remember that the buildings are tall, and many streets don't get the warm sunshine.....I almost did NOT pack the scarf and gloves, but am SOOOO very glad that I did! I had decided that if it got any colder, I'd just go buy something warm......'cus I didn't want to pack everything from capris and flip-flops to jeans and coats. and if you pack your umbrella, it won't rain. (I hauled the umbrella and it didn't rain once all 4 days). :) Went to the theatre 3 nights, after sightseeing all day.....and there were people wearing party dresses, as well as people wearing blues jeans. Don't fret about what to wear. just be comfortable! Have a great time!!! Colette

I need to join the post "I love New Yorkers" You guys are so nice. If I had not gotten on this forum I would not be bringing warm enough clothes. I freeze all the time so I will probably not get too warm! I am so excited!
|
Hey guys,
Just wondering how the weather is in NYC today. I am on the countdown and so excited. |
Chilly still--low 40s at best
|
It's pretty damn cold here in Midtown today. Sunny at least. Looks like slightly warmer low 50's by Wednesday.
