SLEEP NUMBER BEDS
 

OK, this probably isn't the site to post this question, but, who has purchased a sleep number bed? I realize it's a personal choice, & need to do more research. Do you like it? I know someone who had a 30 day trial period & decided to return it, but, return was a big hassle. We stayed at a hotel one night to try it, but, I don't know if the control worked accurately. (number didn't seem accurate, if I set it at 50, & then decided to adjust later, it showed a totally different #), anyway, just curious. FODORITES are knowlegeable on so many subjects, thought I'd give it a try. Any thoughts?

We had a sleep number bed delivered and kept it one night. Asked them to come get it and bring a real bed. It felt like all those nights camping when we slept on an air mattress. When you turn over you can feel the air movement just like when you sleep on an air mattress. On the other hand everyone I talked to at work love, love, love their sleep number bed. One tip I did get is that the best price for a sleep number bed is at the sleep number bed store itself rather than a shop that carries many brands. We used our usual place that has same day delivery and will take back the bed if you don’t like it. Worked for us – no hassles.

Never tried one of these, but several years ago we stayed at a hotel thet had the Sweedish foam/Temperpedic type matresses. It was so amazingly comfortable we got one shortly thereafter, and never regretted it.

I have had my 5000 a few months now and love it... I like it VERY soft, 25. My husband is a 35.
No more morning backaches for my husband.
I must admit it took me a month or so to get used to it but now I just love it.
I topped mine with a 2" foam topper and a pillow top cover.
Previously I had a pillow top Serta.

PS... I tried a foam bed before the serta and found it generated too much heat for me.

I don't have one, but I have slept in one at a Radisson. To address the OP about the changing number, the number represents the pressure at that particular moment. You need to set it when you're lying on the bed. If you've moved or changed position significantly, then the number will change too.

thanks, keep the reviews coming. I appreciate everyones comments! Like I said, we slept on it for one night only, hard to make a decision. I like firm, hubby likes soft, that's why I was considering this, but, I'm more a traditionalist type person. We're willing to spend some money on getting a really good bed, (it's been a few years, since we bought the current bed, didn't realize how spendy things have gotten), thanks again for comments.

I knew FODORITES would give great help

I set mine at 25 and it stays 25. You only need to set them once, they do not change as you move... not at all.
In fact, I cannot feel the air bladder at all unless I increase or decrease the pressure while laying on it.
The motor is nearly silent... it clicks when releasing air.

We got the "best" one and ended up sending it back. Not for us.

We came VERY close to getting one. Had it ordered. Wanted a king with the dual adjustable foundation. Please know that if you take delivery of it, even though you get a 30 day trial period, you will still pay about $200 bucks to send it back if you choose not to keep it. Also, if you buy the adjustable foundation, it's yours, it's non-refundable.

We researched this through numerous consumer sites online and decided against it. Although a lot of people like their bed, too many didn't and called it a glorified air mattress. A major complaint had to do with the air temperature of your room causing the numbers to fluctuate. One review was from a man who took to sleeping in his guestroom because his number would fluctuate as much as 10 numbers and it was killing his back.

We cancelled our order the very next day, never took delivery of the bed, but just recently received our credit card statement showing we were charged the $200 return fee. We are in the process of disputing it now.

We have one, purchased through a "Select Comfort" store which are in most shopping malls.

We love the bed, Husband sleeps on his stomach and can adjust to a firmer number when he does.

We've had ours for about 9 months and think it is much better than a conventional mattress. We don't find much fluctuation from the numbers we set it at based on environment/temperature variations, although that would be normal. Same thing happens with the tires on your car...so you add some air, no big deal.

From a moving standpoint, the bed collapses down into small elements so getting it in and out of spaces is much less cumbersome than other types.

I have a good quality air mattress for guests when needed...there is no comparison...this is much more of a real bed feel.

I would highly recommend this bed (and have) to anyone.

We have central heat/air in our house and keep the temp a steady 72 at night in the summer, 66-68 in the winter.
So, it seems that if you do not have significant shifts in air temp you will not experience this problem.
Also, based on comments of a squeaky platform I used several sheets of adhesive backed felt to pad the frame. It is absolutely silent. I get up before my husband and our old bed creaked when I would get up. This bed is totally quiet.
Had I not used the felt, I am not sure??? Possibly my old bed would have been quiet had I used the felt on the frame.
Anyway, we are really happy with the bed. I can't feel the air chamber at all.

We had a sleep # bed for a few years and then gave it to someone else. No matter what # either one of us set, the bed was still never comfortable. I heard that Radisson hotels use sleep # beds. I'm so glad I found that out ahead of time so I won't book a room at any Radisson's.
