SLC and JAC?? - ski advice needed
 

Hi everyone,
I am planning a Ski trip next February. I am flying non-stop from Argentina to NY and then to Salt Lake City. Since I skied in Utah last year, I was wondering whether I should take two days to head WY and visit Jackson Hole and Grand Targhee (one day each, then fly back to SLC). The Airfare from SLC to JAC is 400 USD, is it worth it for only two days?
I enjoyed skiing in Utah very much last year, I am an intermediate/Advanced skier, skied mostly Blues and Black (not double diamonds). I also heard that Jackson Hole is a tough mountain, so I cannot make my mind… should I save those 400 USD to spend in Utah or go out and visit new places?
I know I can´t go wrong anyway, but I will appreciate your comments!

Why not go to Colorado if you want somewhere else to ski. You could ski Summit County in Colorado and ski 5 mountains and have more terrain than you can imagine.

How cold do you want to be?? Jackson is cooooold. Targhee can be amazing for snow, but it is rarely sunny--because it is snowing. Great for powder, not so much for visibility.

Did you ski all the resorts in SLC? With 8 resorts (including Snowbasin), that would give you a different place every day for a week. And they each have their distinct "personalities" and runs etc. I wouldn't waste time and money going somewhere for 2 days but that's me.

Yes, I agree with StantonHyde, Targhee has great snow, but it can be pretty foggy and cold!

I like Jackson Hole, too. Good snow and good skiing, and it's beautiful. I've never skied in Utah, so I don't know how it compares to the Utah resorts. I think Jackson Hole is fun, but I don't know that it's particularly more difficult than other big resorts in Utah. There's a wide variety of skiing, and there are some fun double diamond and diamond runs!

I don´t want to be thaaaat cold. As for the fog, I am sort of used to it, since it´s usually foggy in Argentina´s resorts too.

I skied Alta/Snowbird, Brighton, Solitude and Deer Valley. I will go for Snowbasin this year for sure and maybe Park City.

I think I am staying in Utah then... although I will defnitely try Summit County and Jackson/Targhee someday.

March at Targhee can be amazing--sunnier and plenty of snow. I never skied Jackson--we would just go up to ski Targhee. Awesome snow, much less crowded. I am sure there are more people there now, but still not Jackson crowded! still--Jackson is great for really good food, etc. Depends on how much of your skiing vacation is about skiing vs. apre ski.

Stanton, I agree about the crowds, too. I live in MT and I think we have the best skiing. No crowds at all and great snow! Plus, it's cheaper. :)

Maybe March is a good idea. Could Spring break be a problem? I guess cold weather is not a very popular destination for that. Cheaper and uncrowded also sound good.

Spring Break can be an issue at the Utah resorts--it can get more crowded. But its still mid week, so its really not that bad. I would ski February in Utah--the snow is usually better to me and if you skip Presidents Day weekend, it is less crowded. March at Targhee could be good--definitely warmer. No guarantee on the visibility.
