Skyway or Mall of America in Minneapolis

I'll be meeting my husband at the Millenium Hotel in downtown Minneapolis on Sunday evening. I'll be flying into MSP at 8am so I'm debating how to spend all day on a Sunday. Do I spend it at the Mall of America then meet him at the airport to go to the Millenium that evening? Or do I go directly to the Millenium Sunday morning and spend all day walking through the skyway shopping and exploring? I would think the shops may or may not be open on a Sunday. I've spent lots of time at the Mall of America but virtually none downtown Minneapolis. Any experiences would be helpful. I haven't checked yet if I can check in early at the Millenium or not but will do so. Thanks

I don't know if this is the norm, but a few years ago we spent a Sunday afternoon walking around the Skyway in Minneapolis and virtually everything, especially the stores, were closed. We were there in February so perhaps the time of year (off-season) makes a difference, but this was our experience. Regardless, we still enjoyed just walking around the Skyway.

I think the downtown area will be pretty buttoned up on a Sunday. Mall of America will be open and busy. You could visit the new Walker Art Center (good architecture, good cafe, modern art) ot the Mpls. Art Institute (good architecture, good cafe, fine art); both are favorite weekend haunts of mine.
