Skylon Tower, Niagara Falls - revolving dining room ?

Hi there, Is the Skylon Tower revolving dining room worth the prices or is it a great big tourist trap? It just looks so neat - anyone been there?

I havent been there in over 30 years (when I was a teenager) and I live 20 minutes away. Frankly, I dont know any locals who go there so my guess is its the view not the food. Now that there are 3 casinos between the US and CAN side, there are also more and better restaurant choices. that being said, we still rarely go to Niagara Falls to eat. Theres better places in Niagara on the Lake, Jordan, Fort Erie, Buffalo and surrounding areas.

The Skylon Dining experience is not widely viewed as a quality food experience, but more as a view... there have been several attempts to make it better, but you never know if its in a good period or a down cycle... play it safe and eat somewhere else... also you can go up the tower without dining, but the best, best dry view of the Falls is from street level on the Canadian side... for the best wet view try the Maid of the Mist boat...

We went a few years ago for the view. The early bird menus are a real bargain. But, we ordered off the regular menu and the food was actually excellent. I was very impressed with the fresh, homemade, cocktail sauce served with the seafood, for example. Of course, everything turns on the current chef.

The views are magnificent!

If you happen to be there on a night with fireworks, the views from the Minolta Tower are fantastic. Just get there early for a front row spot.

thank you - we are certainally not foodies but we are going mostly for the ambiance and dinner - i think my kids - 19 and 14 would get a kick out of the revolving dining room and the experience.

I grew up in the Niagara Falls area and love taking my kids there so I can play tour guide! The experience of eating in the Skylon is well worth it - but we always go for lunch since it's less expensive.

When my youngest was 2 or 3 we ate there and he was standing and looking out the window. Where he stood was stationary and we were moving - didn't realize we'd lost him until he was 2 tables behind us! We still laugh about that!

With kids, you may want to opt for the time when the early bird menus will be available. You can also order off the regular menu. It's actually better to go a bit earlier than when the sun is setting as it will be in your eyes during part of the "revolve around".
