Would you rather they build the usual Indian casino on the cliffs of the canyon, complete with neon lights and flashing signs?
|
Probably not far behind, Neo-Disneyland
on the South rim, Vegas at the West rim- and perhaps even easier to "develop" as the west rim isn't in the park. R5 |
NeoPatrick---is your question for USNR? I bet he won't be back---the comment sounds like a hit and run.

P. T. Barnum was right -- there's a sucker born every minute.

But it's the only place in the world where you can walk out on a glass platform over a 4000 foot drop.

The Hualapai nation has tried running a casino but it failed. They have turned to tourism as a way of offsetting the crushing poverty of the tribe.
The Hualapai, whose reservation is about 90 miles west of Grand Canyon National Park, allowed Las Vegas developer David Jin to build the $30 million Skywalk in hopes of creating a unique attraction on their section of the canyon. This is an excerpt from the Indian Times: "To me, I believe this is going to help us. We don't get any help from the outside, so, why not?" said Dallas Quasula Sr., 74, a tribal elder who was at the Skywalk. "This is going to be our bread and butter." The tribe will include access to the deck in a variety of tour packages ranging from $49.95 to $199.00. They'll allow up to 120 people at a time to look down to the canyon floor more than 4,000 feet below, a vantage point more than twice as high as the world's tallest buildings. I hope that it works out well for them. They have survived a long time on very little. Bit Devine |
Does any one (USNR maybe) know if the skywalk thang is near (or directly above) the helicopter pad just below Lava Falls and which was used by rafting outfitters? Just curious -- we flew out of there some years ago.

jilkovina -- do yourself a favor & go to the real Grand Canyon (National Park). Around $25 for your whole family for a week.
