Sky Harbor Car Rental Companies
 

I will be renting a car at the Sky Harbor Airport. I rented from Advantage on my last trip and will not rent from them again. (No need to tell the whole story, but they were extermely RUDE.)

I would like to know which rental car companies are located on the airport premises. During my last visit, it took FOREVER for the shuttle to arrive to transport us to the Advantage location.

Please share you Sky Harbor advice.

What size car and for how long will you be renting? If it's two weeks or longer, you'll want to take a cab to an off-airport location because you'll save the 30percent in airport fees. They can really add up on a long rental.

I will be in Scottsdale from 8/12 to 8/19 (7 days). A car may not be needed for all seven days. Would it be cost effective to rent from the Hertz location at the hotel when a car is needed? Would it be impractical to travel by taxi to dinner and shopping?

Yes, the airport fees are outrageous at PHX, but you still may be better off renting at the airport, because a taxi from the airport to Scottsdale (and then back again) can be very expensive.

I hate to recommend a rental at the airport, I'd rather boycott them and the 58percent fees, but in this case the base rate is low enough that you're probably better off, With daily rentals in Scottsdale at $50 or so a day.
