Skipping Thanksgiving: Finally decided: Steamboat Co --Questions! Help!

A friend gave us use of the Dulany Condo in Steamboat, Co for the week of Thanksgiving!

Free is good! No, Free is Great!

We are considering skipping the 15-16 hour drive and flying to Steamboat. There is a shuttle near the condo to go downtown.

Question: Is there a shuttle from the airport to the ski lift area?

I am digging into the posts, just starting.

The condo is near the ski lift, but the season doesn't start until we've been there 4 days. I really don't want to rent a car
if we can just shuttle around!

Any advice is appreciated!

Thanks!

Free is definitely good!

Steamboat Springs Transit offers FREE transportation too:

Getting around Steamboat is easy! The City of Steamboat Springs provides free buses between the ski area, downtown and most hotel, condominium, restaurant, grocery and entertainment locations. The ski area is located 3 miles southeast of downtown Steamboat Springs. Steamboat Springs Transit (SST) runs 7:00 am until 1:45 am daily during peak seasons. For more information contact Steamboat Springs Transit at 970-879-3717.

Steamboat Springs Transit (SST) provides a fixed route transit service throughout the City of Steamboat Springs. Year-round bus service is provided daily around town and between downtown and the Ski Resort Mountain Base area. Schedule information is available on the buses and in brochure racks located throughout Steamboat Springs. The SST is a "FREE" to user system.

Visited my son last March, who was working in Steamboat Springs. We flew into Denver and out of Yampa Valley. Six of us split the cost of renting a Suburban. We also made good use of the shuttles and buses. The shuttles worked best for getting to the ski area (free parking was crazy-cars & trucks crammed into a small lot, the garage was $10 each time you parked). The car came in handy for trips to town for groceries, shopping, and restaurants, but saw many people using the shuttles. If you are flying into Yampa Valley, the airport is half an hour from Steamboat, so shuttles may be expensive.

We did a snowmobile tour of Rabbit Ear Pass that everyone enjoyed (not something we get to do in Florida).

Enjoyed ourselves a lot! There was enough variety to keep everyone happy. Sons snowboarded the hardest runs, but enough easy runs to give Mom (who hadn't skiied in 27 years!) a thrill. My sister shopped until she dropped. We all loved watching the sunsets from our condo balcony-the sky there turns the most amazing color of blue at dusk. Overall, a great trip!

THANKS!!

You have answered my "main" question!
I will keep digging for more info, but that was my concern.

Again, thanks!

Wow! Thanks Rascat for the rundown!

LOVE the sunset report! It's my favorite thing on vacation! I just hope where we are at that we can see it like you did.

I have read that we are at the base of the mountain and there is a grocery store across the street, and shuttles...so, I don't think we need a car.

I have 4 months to figure it all out!

:)
