Skiing - Breckenridge or Park City?
My husband (snowboarder) and I(skier) have been going to Winter Park for the last 5 years. While we love it we want to branch out and try something different. We are between Breckenridge or trying something completely new and hitting Park City and seeing another part of the country. Can't find a lot of Park City people so hopin for some feedback. We are solid Blue skiers, enjoy good food, not big on the apres ski as we are too exhausted at the end of the day, enjoy a cute town, and would like to be a reasonable distance to the airport...not too much to ask. Any help is appreciated.

Just because you have been going to Colorado, I think you should try Park City. Park City is much closer to the SLC airport than Winter Park is to Denver. Cute town, good restaurants...everything you want.
|
Another vote for Park City. Great snow in addition to everything else.
|
Park City for sure. Better mountain, by far, is Canyons, right next to PCMR.
Stay in Park City itself (the town), or at the Canyons and use the free shuttle. If you have a car go to SLC, and don't miss skiing at Snowbasin and Snowbird. Breckenridge is too lame. Enjoy! |
Thanks for your advice. Park City it is. I just posted another question regarding accomodations between Old Town Guesthouse and Park Station. If you have any opinions let me know.
|
Your poor husband. Winter Park is the worst for snowboarding in my opinion. I like Breckenridge but if you're ever looking to try another resort in Colorado... look at Vail. You'll both love it.
|
Winter Park the worst for snowboarding??? I don't think so!
|
In my opinion. If your a fan of skating the flats on your board, then by all means... WP it is. If you're skiing, then that's a different story.
|
I actually don't care for WP be it skiing or snowboarding... but to each his own. All the resorts would be wonderful to someone who has never skied the west...

Hi Penguin,
OK, you found me. I live in Park City and have been skiing in Utah for a long, long time..... Can't help you with the Old Town Guesthouse, the name isn't familiar. Properties change hands and change names sometimes too. Do you have an address? Park Station is OK, each condo will be different as owners vary. The building has been around for a long time, just ask when the unit you are considering was last renovated. It has a very good location and one of PC's best restaurants on the ground floor -- Chez Betty. You can't get much more convenient than SL Intl and the 8 resorts within 45 minutes' drive. No snowboarding allowed at Deer Valley or Alta. All the others are good to go! We're supposed to get snow tonight and we are ready for it. Normal opening is the weekend before Thanksgiving. Powder to the people! |
I haven't skied Breck's, but I've gone to PC the last 2 years (the only West Resort I've ever skied twice. PC is one of 3 mountains up there, no boarding at D. Valley though. Definitely stay in PC though. Great Rests and neat little town and friendly locals. Make sure you're in shape for the walk up Main St. also Make sure you're staying on/near Main St. Some places advert PC and there not in town. There's Resonable lodging downtown, so do the reseach. Another tip. To show how close they are to Salt Lake City, PC's been running a Quick Start program, get a coupon from their Website and show up with your boarding pass and ski free that day. I fly in from Boston and get 3-4 hrs of FREE skiing in on the day I arrive.

Hey Dale,
I read your reply above and have a question for you (or anyone who might know) about salt lake city the second week in December. I planned a trip to Snowbird from Dec 10th to 17th. Last year they were open at this time with a lot of snow. They still are not open and I am worried about what conditions will be like in December. I have never been there before. Should I be worried? Will most of the terrain be open on all of the resorts be open by then?? Thanks. |
Not sure, I've never been out that early. I know they can get a lot of snow fast up in the Canyon. Good luck.

thebern - the weather man said tonight that next week Salt Lake will have a storm that will make the skiers jump for joy.
