Hi.. what is the best place in the Big Sky area to rent skis? Also would like suggestions for restaurants, tours of Yellowstone from there and anything else you might add. Will be there the end of February for one week.

Are you staying in Mountain Village or further down the hill?

Favorite place to eat is The Lotus Pad which is in Meadow Village (a couple miles down the hill from the mountain village). It's a tiny restaurant so I'd recommend reservations. The food is very good!

Lone Peak Brewery is also in Meadow Village (but across the road from where the Lotus Pad is located), and it's a fun stop for beers and bar food.

There aren't many options for dining in and around Big Sky as it's pretty remote and there really isn't a town there.

I've heard Olive B's is good, but haven't been there.

The Carabiner Lounge and Peaks are both in the Summit and pretty average with pretty steep prices.

We usually figure on pizza one night, Lotus Pad another night, and then burgers and beer a third night.

There is nothing in Big Sky except a great mountain for skiing. It is like a large day ski area. Typical ski resort amenities have never been developed. The poster above pretty much covers all of the dining options. We have been to Big Sky twice. Last spring, we ate at the burger place at the base 3 or 4 times in a week because there is nowhere else to go. No on-mountain dining either.

There are a couple of ski rental places at the base area and one at the entrance to Big Sky down the mountain. It doesn't really matter which one you use, but I prefer the ones at the base because you can exchange gear more easily. You may also consider renting from Black Tie Rentals, which will bring gear to your lodging.

Lone Mountain Sports in the Arrow Head Mall for ski rentals just in case something doesn't work right.

The Hungry moose has two locations, one at the ski resort and one in Big Sky. You can get great take away there. There is also a liquor store there and a mexican place and a couple other places. The resort has places also but not that great.

I don’t have any direct experience of Yellowstone from Big Sky but there are a number of different options listed on the website http://www.bigskyresort.com/things-t...-national-park. In the winter it is great to go by snowcoach or snowmobile so you can see the areas of the park that are not open to cars – take a look at the NPS website for ideas of companies taking tourists on these exciting tours http://www.nps.gov/yell/planyourvisit/wintbusn.htm
