Ski Resorts near San Fransisco?

Actually, near Menlo Park CA - where we will be visiting early 2010...
Are there GOOD resorts near by? Thanks!

No, not near by. The closest would be around Lake Tahoe, about a 4-hour drive away (often requiring tire chains or 4WD). Here's a webpage with a list of the ski resorts:

Do you have a map of California? Take a look at where SF/Menlo Park are. They are on/near the ocean on the west side of the state. For skiing you need mountains and altitude. For that you need to cross to the entire state to the east -- at or near Tahoe, or down in Yosemite.

There are no ski resorts anywhere near Menlo Park . . . .

Nearby is relative. If you're traveling from 1/2 way around the world 4-5 hrs could be considered nearby.

It's a reasonable question.

If you have a FULL, LONG day...you could make it up to Kirkwood and back. You would get to see a lot of countryside too with your 6-7 hours in the car.

Kirkwood is fantastic btw, and if I HAD to ski, I would do it in a heartbeat.
